any bullseye shooters in the albany ny area?
im a farly new shooter, and have wanted to give BE shooting a go for a number of years. At this time i dont belong to any clubs, but am looking to join my local one after the summer hubbub dies down. I have found little in the way of bullseye info local, but im sure im just not in the right pace, or talking to the right peope. Is there anyone online here from the aera that can fill me in with some local info? kinda help a new guy get into the loop so to speak. thanks for any help

I've got several NY places listed on my Places that host Bullseye Shooting page.
Troy Pistol League is probably the closest. It's Indoor (50 ft) and runs organized events during the colder months. It would be a great starting place for a new shooter.
Castleton is the closest for Outdoor and they run events through the warmer months. They also have an Indoor range with events through the cooler times.

It's not exactly NEAR albany, but Dutchess County Pistol Association in Wappinger's Falls is a great place to shoot and they do bullseye competitions once a month, if i remember correctly. I'm sure there are places closer, but if you're in the neighborhood, stop in!

I 2nd Ed Hall's recommendations. TPL and Castleton F&G are very Bullseye friendly ranges and both are well-run. If you are interested in EIC matches, Castleton F&G hosts EIC matches twice per year.

You also may want to investigate one of the seven local clubs that participate in the Adirondack Foothills Pistol League. It is a traveling league, going to each of the clubs throughout the winter. (Dec-Mar)

s1120, If you are still looking Watervliet Fish and Game Protective asso. just started the indoor 50' BE for this year. All the info is on the club web site. The cost is only $15.00 for the season, Monday evenings 5:00 until all shoot. You don't have to be a member. It is .22 and some centerfire. The club is in Colonie on Rifle Range Rd off of RT 155 south of Central ave. Sorry this is so late, I just joined the forum and this was the first post I read.

Here's an unfortunate update- Castleton has discontinued their 2700 matches until further notice. Bummer. Great venue!

Re: any bullseye shooters in the albany ny area?
I might as well post this here, but I will probably branch it off to another thread at some point.
In light of the discontinuance of Castleton's Bullseye program, the officers of the Long Lake Fish & Game Club, the home of the Long Lake Black Bear Annual Championship, are entertaining the idea of hosting a section of the New York State Outdoor Championship in September. This may not really help those individuals south of Albany, but might be of interest to some north of the region.
The details are still in the making and we don't want to interfere in any way with the Black Bear Championship. If we do host the event, it will most likely be on 12-14 September to keep from conflicting with Syracuse and Ten-X.
We would like to know how much interest there may be in attending this venue, as we currently only have ten firing points. If the interest is high, we'll use all three days. If interest is low, we may limit the days, or decide against the event. You can find contact information at Long Lake Fish & Game Club.

Count me in Ed!
Long Lake always puts on a professional and fun match, in some of the most beautiful and scenic country in the USA!

Thanks, John - we had you on our list.
Yeah, Paul, you are a "bit" south of Albany. Any word on DCPA for this year? I haven't seen anything.

On their mini-calendar, DCPA has 2700 practice sessions in March and April, with their first 2700 match of 2014 May 4.
