Hammerli 208 Trigger guards
Hi-
Does anyone know if a hammerly 208S trigger guard will fit on my 208? The problem I have is the trigger guard on my 208 is too small for my finger and it looks like the 208S is much roomier.
Thanks, Greg

My 208 has the square trigger guard like a 208s. At least in 2-3 examples I have seen it can be done.

Re: Hammerli 208 Trigger guards
I have a 215 that was converted to a 215S. It has the square trigger guard on it now, and I also have the old round guard. It was done by Larry Carter (RIP), so I don't know if any permanent modifications were made. But it is possible. Keep in mind that there were really three types of 208's made... one with a single stage trigger, one with a two stage trigger, and one with a two stage trigger and adjustable LOP (the S model). The square trigger guard might only be compatible with a two stage frame. I just don't know.

Well, I’m encouraged. I guess I’ll have to look one up and try it out…

While on the subject of the 208 trigger I would like to know if the 208 International was a single or two stage trigger? I own and shoot one and the trigger is right down sweet.

Single stage. 208s is 2 stage. The 208 holds the world record if 584 since 1983. So yeah, the trigger is the best for about 40 years now.

Re: Hammerli 208 Trigger guards
My Hammerli has International on the slide.
Square trigger guard, 2 stage trigger, says 208s on the box only.
It is an early one as far as I know.

Re: Hammerli 208 Trigger guards
They seem to hide the model number and just put “international” on the gun, but the 2-stage trigger and squared trigger guard make it the 208S (as well as the label on the box). Nice gun! I might have to try this version is my next gun

Re: Hammerli 208 Trigger guards
What defines a two stage trigger?
I ask because my understanding that that the model S's added fore and aft adjustment to the two stage trigger used in prior models. There were at least a couple different iterations of the trigger in the 208 and 215, prior to the 208S. The earlier iterations were clearly single stage. However, two stage triggers (to my understanding) were used on serial numbers on/after 40335 for the 208/211 and 67589 for the 214/215 (according to the Hammerli manual). These used a rather clever adjustable plunger like mechanism. The take up weight and travel could be adjusted independently from pressure aserted by the plunger (the second stage). Through adjustment you could create a wide variety of triggers types. I was under the impression that the 208s used a similar plunger (also similar to those used in the trailside).
