Factory DR Load?
Sorry if this is an FAQ, couldn't find any definitive answers. I only shoot DR once in a blue moon so I don't want to bother with my press setup - but can anyone recommend a decent soft factory load for DR?
I saw these two at lucky gunner: https://www.luckygunner.com/38-special-158-grain-semi-wadcutter-prvi-partizan-50-rounds and https://www.luckygunner.com/38-special-158-gr-lswc-federal-50-rounds - are they any good?

I have had decent success (270s - 280s) with American Eagle 158gn LRN. I'm in the same boat as you: I don't want to reload it.
Most recently I bought it from Target Sports USA; I have had good luck with them over a number of years. The most recent purchase was not cheap, but it was in stock and it's on a truck to my house right now.
I can't vouch for this current batch of American Eagle yet, but previous lots have been good enough for me to get DR with.

Not sure about these HSM 158 grain SWCs (never used them), but they're $23.99 at Sportsman's Warehouse, and delivery (free, at least to my address) seems fairly fast.

Re: Factory DR Load?
Factory is the smart way to go, reloads are difficult to get 50 yard performance. Magtec RN and 3.6-231 doesn't work
Re: Factory DR Load?
I RR tested some of the factory ammo out of three S&W Mod. 14s two + years ago. Magtech's 158gr LSWC held 10 ring at 50Y out of the best cylinder in each revolver. Magtech's 158gr lead RN was very good as well. Federal's American Eagle 158gr lead RN didn't do as good as two above in my testing.

Well, John, I know you, you can throw rocks at the target and hit X all the time Us mortals need an excuse for not shooting high master scores ))john bickar wrote:I have had decent success (270s - 280s) with American Eagle 158gn LRN. I'm in the same boat as you: I don't want to reload it.

OK, thanks, everyone, I picked up some Magtech and some American Eagle, we'll see how it goes. If I can get 250 or so out of this thing, it makes me happy.

You moved to the United States; you probably have an easier time ordering ammo online. Those of us who live just west of the US have a tougher time.

Has anybody tried the Remington version?

Re: Factory DR Load?
I actually used Remington before, it was pretty accurate (as far as I could tell) but a bit too hot.
Re: Factory DR Load?
I used some Remington in a DR match this fall that was probably 5 years old. I shot a 281 with a 94 SF so I was happy with it. That's a really small sampling though so I wouldn't run out an buy a case off of that one experience. I'm also not sure how it compares with current production which is an entirely new company so it might be different.Thin Man wrote:Has anybody tried the Remington version?
Good luck.

Re: Factory DR Load?
That remington swc was such a great factory option. That nickel brass was sooo smooth. Didnt even need to use the ejector rod. Open cylinder and up end the muzzle.

Re: Factory DR Load?
My personal experience with Federal American Eagle has been long line only and very good. Best I've done with it was a 92 SF. I'm sure its fine for the short line.
