Dave Salyer wad gun
I sometimes do Random Rest testing, but the ultimate test for me is how a gun shoots out of the hand in bullseye competition.
Specificially, how closely do the shots land to where I called them? More importantly: can I get good scores out of the gun?
Below is a composite target of my three Slow Fire targets in the .45 match at the recent California State Outdoor Pistol Championships. 97-99-98, for a 6-point long line.
I'll take that any day of the week.
This is from a gun that Dave Salyer built for me a few years ago, with ASYM ammo.
Dave's guns shoot, period.
Windage was pretty good; I guess I need to work on elevation a little

wheel of woe
I woulld have to scope EVERY shot to see which mistake I made on that shot.bruce martindale wrote:Never trust trust the wheel of misfortune
I am still discovering new ways to throw a shot out.

I was such a disaster at my last match that when the PA system stopped working, someone accused me of shooting it.

I think you need to tweak on the choke tube and you’ll probably get more X’s John. That’s like only 23% in the X ring. I think you can improve on that

When and where was the CA State match? I don't recall seeing any notices?

The major difference between Marksmen, Sharpshooters and Experts versus Masters and High Master come down to this:
The first group is using the scope to see where the shot went. The second group is using to scope to confirm their call.

this x100. If you are using your scope to look for your shot you are missing something in your shot processesCR10X wrote:The major difference between Marksmen, Sharpshooters and Experts versus Masters and High Master come down to this:

October 15th at Sacramento Valley. I take it you are not on Bob H's distribution list. I forwarded it to as many lists as I know of. I'll email him.

Re: Dave Salyer wad gun
Thanks JB.
Turns out it anyway clashed with both the OR and AZ State matches. I shot OR, but then a cancelled flight prevented me from attending AZ. For 2023 I have asked AZ to move to one week later. If I can persuade the nice guys in OR to move one week earlier I could do it all by driving, that would be perfect!
