Hello, I just got in 500 of the magnus 32swl in 98 gr, .314. has anyone on this forum loaded these before? I ask because I keep getting lead shavings when I seat the bullet.  I am using Redding dies and a Lee crimp die.  For a comparison I loaded other rounds using lapua 98 grain bullets, no shavings. Might be a case of "you get what you pay for" on the magnus bullets. If you have used these please let me know what experience you had. Thanks

Shaving during the seating operation is usually caused by insufficient belling of the case mouth.  Try turning in the belling stem a bit and see if that doesn't cure the problem.

Greetings,

You case sizing die may be too small.

For 0.314" bullets, Lapua cases should come out of the sizer about 0.334" diameter. With StarLine, 0.336" would be about right.

With cast bullets, I had good results using 1.65 grains of WST in the European factory barrels.

Cheers,

Dave

For the Lapuas, you're not getting shaving, you're getting swaging. Neither is good for precise results.

Try fired, unresized shells and see how those work. I use a Redding 32 h&r mag profile crimp as a sizer. You didn't sat what gun but Euros typically bung it up on dimensions

This is an old thread where fc60 described ordering a larger-than-standard .32 S&W-L full length sizer from Lee:
