Scoring Overlay What the ????
OK, I am not unintelligent, and I understand quite well what the inside part of the overlay is for
I even (deep breath in) understand the bullet sized holes and how they're used.
What I do not understand on this lovely device is:
1. What's the 1.5x bullet diameter and International Skid Gauge, and how on earth is that used, and then, icing on the cake...
2. I get the X, 10, 9 and 8 outside lines are the radius of the ring (but wait, which target?? 50 yd slow, 25 T/R, 50 ft?) but what are they used for?
Sometimes, it takes a simple thing to make me feel, well, simple.

Mike,
In international shooting if skidder is more than 1.5 bullet diameter then it is scored as a miss.
Those radiused are for reconstructing B-8 & B-16 targets.

Thanks Jon,
Makes more sense now... although I am gonna swear that the 8 and 9 radius are the same....

Glad someone asked this question! And I think that I now understand why there are TWO overlays. Not an easy thing for a newbie to find out on the interwebs.

You can also use both overlays to help find a double in 1 hole. Take the 1st overlay and use the correct caliber and line it up on one side of hole then take the 2nd overlay with the correct caliber and line it up on the opposite side of the hole. You should be able to see the smallest difference of the 2 circles lines for proof, even a thickened line could show up.

www.champchoice.com has them $7 a pair, ask them to put them in a letter and mail them to you, much cheaper shipping.SingleActionAndrew wrote:Where can I buy these? The ink rubs right off the ones I bought from Creedmoor sports

You can also buy Transparency Film at an office supply store like Office Depot and make backups. They make film for ink jets, copiers and lasers. I only have experience with the film lasers. It has worked well for me, although the film is expensive.

And copied ones are pretty much crap. Copied, scanned, printed, etc; always skew the dimensions and alter the actual size to some degree if not properly compensated for during the process. Get an overlay with the NRA or ISSF logo and license watermarks. Yes I've measured many copied ones and "crap" assessment is actually pretty mild.

The 4gun matches at Cardinal historically have had overlays in the packets. Nice way of assuring that everyone shooting/scoring has access to the same make of overlay. They are however a more simplistic style than the ones in the OP.

Check the Scoring Overlay sticky in equipment discussion….most everything BE target related is there ready for printing on transparencies. Print actual size and they will be within specifications…specs will print on the overlay sheet.

I checked this last night and they are indeed the same. The 8 ring one is incorrect, IIRC.
There’s another style of overlay that doesn’t have the skid gauge, and I think the rings are correct on that one.

Re: Scoring Overlay What the ????
I was able to have some printed on a clear mylar material on a color plotter.
The printing is on the top side, so as it rubs on the target, it won't come off.
Haven't tried them out yet.....
I did have to print them at 97% so the sizing was correct.

Re: Scoring Overlay What the ????
I'm assuming Jon E's response about B8/B-16 is a typo, B-16 being a 25 reduced 50. I thought maybe the radii would be the same or close enough by moving up/down one ring. X (B8) to 10 (B-16) is pretty close. The rest not so much.
I trust JB's assessment of the 8 and 9 being identical. Not sure why, I think it's maybe the 'JB Mind Trick' he uses on those of us who are weak minded.
