Hammerli 208 Question Empty Hammerli 208 Question

Post by DennyK Thu Dec 22, 2022 4:06 am

To those of you that are shooting a Hammerli 208 with a dot using the typical Knapp, LGI, etc. scope mount:  How feasible is it to regularly remove the scope/mount and then shoot with the iron sights? Can this be done quickly, for example, after a 2700 match using the dot, then shooting an EIC match with iron sights? Is there any change in zero when re-attaching the dot? Are there any downsides/concerns to switching back and forth?  Would like to hear from anyone doing this and what issues you have run into, if any.  Any insights would be helpful.  Thanks.

I found no trouble with this and swapped back and forth regularly.  I r/r the scope mount even more regularly with no affect to zero.

No problem at all with the Knapp.   Some of the Larry's mounts use two screws to tighten the mount to the gun and I found with those you might need to make a click or two adjustment.

No issue with holding zero with that style mount. I have been told by more than one person that you can swap the mount between guns and the zero will hold. If you have the larry's style with two screws, just make sure you tighten the screws in the same way.

It's fairly quick to take the dot w/mount off and zero remains intact. Mine is tight, so I have to hold it between my feet while I pull the pistol backwards.

When Adam and his AMU team mates wanted to shoot the .22 Distinguished match they would remove the Knapp mount. Adam said when the mount was replaced zero remained as it was prior to removal though it might have required very minor adjustment at 50 yards. Keep in mind those guys wanted to shoot 10X at 50 yards and often did.

No issues, I have the actual Hammerli mount.  Occasionally, it sticks when removing but always keeps its zero.  Just make sure you keep the barrel weight in the box.
