Identify 41-1
My father has passed. He was a NM shooter in his day, I have inherited a good portion of his collection, I have found what appears to be a s&w model 41-1 All the markings on the pistol are correct except the model #is just stamped 41. NOT 41-1. The slide is marked 22 short ctg and the other side is just model 41. Any help?

Pictures? Seems to be chambered in short which os unusual.
How about the magazines? Short also?
Early guns had just numbers then there was the A series (1980s) then 3 letters plus numbers

Greetings,
Yes, the 41-1 was the complete pistol in 22 Short.
Likely he bought/traded for a 22 Short barrel, slide, and magazine.
The parts are interchangeable.
Cheers,
Dave

22 short mag is the same as 22lr mag? Would not the mag well be to wide to hold a 22 short mag?fc60 wrote:Greetings,

Re: Identify 41-1
Greetings,
S&W made a magazine just for the 22 Short. Same external dimensions. If I recall, there was a filler in the rear of the magazine.
The 22lr magazine will fit into the pistol. I doubt it would feed the 22 short.
Almost forgot. There was also a 22 Short Ejector/Slide Stop. The ejector notch is moved forward. Placed side by side it is easy to distinguish the two versions.
Cheers,
Dave

Also the .22 shorts had aluminum slides and to prevent their use with regular .22 LR barrels and cartridges, the aluminum slide featured a little protrusion on the underside of the slide which mated into a corresponding recess in the .22 short barrel.

This must be a 41 that got an equally rare conversion kit, must be an early model. Has the cocked indicator on the back will post pics soon
