Ruger Standard Model in .32 S&W long
Some thirty years ago I saw an odd looking pistol in a Seattle pawn shop. Turned out to be a Ruger Standard Model, originally in .22 LR, converted to .32 S&W long. I bought it with two magazines, had a 30 mm Aimpoint on it. Since I was doing compatibility testing on Federal's priming mix at the time, I was able to acquire a case of ammo for it quite reasonably. Pistol shot extremely well but didn't feed reliably. I sold it to a collector in Nevada a few years ago. Once again, I don't know much about it, I know Atkinson & Marquart made 20 such conversions for the U.S. Olympic team and I've heard that Clark made a few also. Any information is appreciated.

I currently have one of these but only have a single magazine for it. Would love to know more about the history/ how they made them.

I don’t remember Doc ever talking about having a Ruger 32. He was definitely the best 32 long shooter we’ve ever had. I remember his 2677 grand aggregate using 32, but don’t remember which pistol he used.

For those interested:
When Doc shot out here in Washington, he almost always shot his Erma 32 in CF. Our ranges have lots of evergreens that prevent any noticeable wind.
I found one of the 2677 scores he shot and I believe the other was shot at the SPAA range and is recorded on our State trophy for 2001.
Ruby's record was also shot in WA at the Kitsap range.

Interesting that Doc Young's centerfire aggregate is only 2 points and 1x better than his .45 score! I had the opportunity to spend some time with Doc at Camp Perry one year. He was a great guy and generous with information. He really liked to tinker and push the envelope.

Obviously, and historically, a great pistol shot! Still…2 points is 2 points. Matches have been won/lost by less!!
