30,000 round tune- up
I have always been a preventative maintenance guy so this morning I decided to tune-up my 31,500 round Pardini. I needed to replace the o-rings and recoil spring(I do this between 7,500 - 10,000 rounds).
After replacing the o-rings (8,000 rounds) which only the first 4 furthest in the bolt looked worn I decided to clean/check firing pin and spring. The firing pin showed minimal wear the spring compared to the new one noticeably weaker. Lots of crud in the firing pin hole. Installed new firing pin/spring.
Heck I was on a roll so took the extractor and spring out, they looked perfect, cleaned the slot out and installed new extractor and spring.
So for $90.00 I replaced everything in the bolt. I don't use Pardini o-rings so $1.00 for them. Did it need all of it, most likely not, but it makes me feel good.
The entire tune-up took just about an hour - I lost a few minutes installing the extractor. I never drift out the pins all the way making it much easier when pushing them back in. The extractor pin is recessed on the inside of the bolt so not able to hammer it back in from the bottom, so this pin you need to drift out and then reinstall from top side of bolt.
Nothing is hard about any of this, I used a pair of tweezers to hold the pin so I could hammer it straight in from the top.
Going forward I think other than the o-rings and recoil spring I will probably stick to 30,000 rounds and replace. Of course could be sooner if warranted.
Heck for all I know this was a complete waste of my time and $90.00 but if I never have a problem with any of these items I'm happy to have done it.

Heck, I'm impressed with just the fact that you kept track of all those rounds!

I need more flaws. Do you use some sort of specific record book or format? Inquiring minds want to know!

I have a small notebook that I keep track of the rounds I've put through my Kimber 45... when I cleaned it, changed the springs etc..
Just never added them all up though.

Nothing special I have an excel spread sheet, round count, what ammunition, alibis, FTE, FTF, which magazine, etc. I like info, don't know if any of it is really useful but I do it anyway.
Too bad none of it helps me shoot any better.

It's easy. Buy 10,000 rounds. Shoot 10,000 rounds. Order $100 parts and another 10,000 rounds.
Wash, rinse and repeat. If you are retired or otherwise have time, cycle time 3 months or so!

Pretty much that easy. And yes I am fortunate I have the time. Trying really hard to retire, but I have not learned to say no.
