Current "Good Stuff" in .22 LR?
Okay, I have been out of the game for a while and need some input on what's working these days. For the uber-matches (especially in rifle) I might spring for 10x or R50 or something else near top of the line from Eley or RWS, but what about the rest of the year?
I did some trade for a brick of Eley Club and it's working well in the Model 41. SK Rifle Match, not so good, 4 inches at 50 yards and occasional flyers. Both function well. Federal 711B won't reliably cycle it and I don't want to futz with springs.
In a High Standard, Federal Auto Match was 4-inch groups at 50. I tried. Wanted it to work but it's just ordinary bulk ammo quality out of that one. Haven't checked it out in the Smith yet. In the old days, I had decent accuracy (enough to barely clean the then-ISU 50-foot rifle targets) out of two or three rifles using the very dirty-shooting Federal Champion. Do they even make that any more? I had similar results, believe it or not, with Win Super-X in both solids and HPs and with CCI Mini-Mag solids.
So last week when the 711B turned it into a single-shot, a friend let me try some of his Winchester bulk stuff in a plastic box. Super-X headstamp and black bullets which he said were "really copper" but I don't buy that yet (maybe I should cut one...). Anyway, I did my "alibi" 2nd RF string and got a nice 2-1/2 inch group in a rushed 8.5 seconds.
So, just in case we EVER get a chance to CHOOSE what .22 LR to buy, what's working for you? And what's been disappointing???
Thanks!

I've been using Eley Sport after using CCI SV until the CCI SV dry spell. I like it. X-ring accuracy at 50 yards and consistent enough. It's only $350ish/case at Champions Choice.
Even if they don't show it in stock, they told me they have been filling backorders in about 2 weeks. They did that for me even in the middle of the worst of the ammo shortage.

I'm currently shooting a Marvel Unit 1. Good results with Eley Sport, Eley Target, SK Pistol Match Special (shoots good but I don't like the sticky lube). CCI SV seems fine but I could only find a couple of hundred to try.

I posted this in another thread but in case you did not see it, here is what worked in some High Standard barrels I tested at 50 yards.
