Ammo and Current Shortages
I have just gotten back to BE shooting after recovering from a few eye operations and a shoulder surgery.
I needed some .22LR target ammo and powder for my .45 wad gun. The local gunshops
laughed at me. No .22 LR unless you have bought a gun from them. No pistol powder
available. Gun shows sell out on the Friday night before they open to the public on Saturday. They tell me to get them before the hoarders do !
What has happened while I was recuperating?
Where is all the ammo? Who is hoarding all the stuff?
Luckily, I still have a half case of GI type Hardball .45 and a few boxes of GI type 185 grain SWC ammo.

I don't know about other parts of the country, but around here (western Missouri), it is easier to buy powder, primers and bullets than it is to buy 22lr of any type. As my friend who runs a gun shop says, as long as people at the gun shows will pay $60 for $20 ammo this will continue. Every time he gets a shipment it is sold out within a few hours.

Last time I spoke with Neal Stepp at ISS, he has Eley Target at 531/cs
Takes about another 50 to ship it to me.

Re: Ammo and Current Shortages
Some local feather merchant just phoned me and offered to trade me some 22LR ammo for .308 Target ammo.
He offered 5 boxes of Aguillera plus 5 boxes of Eley Club (500 rounds total) for 10 boxes of white box M852 (200 rounds total). He says that I am getting the better part of the deal.
I no longer am able to shoot HP rifle so I gave away my rifle.

Places I look for ammo. Between ammoseek and gunbot, they search over 100 different online retailers. Help drive the price down by refusing to purchase grossly overpriced ammo. I pay no more than 10 cents per rd. for CCI SV and maybe a couple of cents more for SK Standard Plus.

Re: Ammo and Current Shortages
Robert,
The flatlander came over to trade his 22 for my M852; Found out that his "Eley" was Mexican, probably Aguilera.
So no deal. I offered him 200 rounds of M118 for brick of
Aguilera.
As I remember, the Mexican ammo is a bit too soft for
my Nygord Kart, but ok for my Hammerli 208.
