Optics for model 41
I am looking for advice on red dots. Recently my Dad gifted me one of his model 41s with a 7 inch barrel. He then purchased a 5 inch barrel to use for a red dot. Looking for any advice I can get. I am new to bullseye shooting and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ultra dot, Match dot, and Aimpoint are popular. Some people like the longer tube like the Aimpoint SC9000 rather than the shorter H1 or H2 for example. Next is dot size. I have only used 2moa dots so I have no input on other sizes.

Thanks. I have been looking at the ultradot matchdot 2. I have never used a red dot sight. So any info is appreciated.

My first experience with a red dot was VERY frustrating. I had shot irons for years, could accept my wobble. Watching that little red ball bounce around was what I called "follow the bouncing ball" lol. Once I got used to the ball moving scores improved. That little red ball will give you a lot of feed back, especially dry firing. It took me a couple months to get used to it. With these older eyes I am really liking it.

Where are you located? If you have a club nearby that is shooting Bullseye a visit could provide a lot of information. Most shooters would let you look at their setups and tell you why they chose what.

Since you have the longer barrel, which I found somewhat (too nose heavy), you might look at a shorter lighter dot. Something like a Sig Romeo5. 2 MOA dot and only 5.1 ounces and is small enough to be mounted just ahead of the rear sight on one small rail.

I have a 5 inch field barrel that I am going to use for the red dot. Leaving long barrel for iron sight shooting. From what I have read the romeo5 is built like a tank and is highly recommended. Thanks.

Red dot on 41
I tried an Aimpoint 9000 on my 5 inch 41, found it too heavy. I had a Holosun 407, so I put that on with the $20Kubikshawn wrote:I have a 5 inch field barrel that I am going to use for the red dot. adapter and found it a good fit. At 41 oz, the pistol is already plenty heavy for 22, IMHO.

For me and maybe only me, the small dots move around considerably more than larger dots which is not good for my trigger pull.

I like my Romeo 5 (both of them), though I don't have something along the lines of an Aimpoint for comparison. Just be careful if purchasing as I see them advertised now with mounts that are too tall for bullseye pistol. You can still get the lower mount, just verify.

I went with an ultradot matchdot 2.
Mounted on 5 inch field barrel and centered yesterday. I am very pleased with this setup.
