Bullet Choice .45ACP
I am new to formal Bullseye shooting, but have handloaded ammunition, including .45 ACP, for decades. Can you gentlemen point me in the right direction in terms of commercial cast and jacketed bullets suitable for the long and short line? On hand is a supply of Starline brass and Bullseye powder. I am looking for some economy in practice ammo, but high precision stuff for matches. Thank you.

Zero's 185 gr. JHP is a favorite of many shooters.

And Zero's SWCHP 185 gr lead bullet is another favorite. It is also sold by Roze Dist.

The Nosler 185 has a good reputation as well.
Brazos 200, or 160, is a great choice for 'cheaper'.

Nosler 185 JHP are the best. Zero 185 JHP are so close only a ransom rest or Jon Shue can tell the difference. I shoot lead SWC's. I like 200gr Missouri or Oregon Trail for the long line and Summer's 180 SWC and Zero 185 SWCHP for the short line. I used to shoot Valiant 160's on the short line but they are no longer available. Brazos has a great line of 160,180,and 200gr SWC with a high tech coating.

Re: Bullet Choice .45ACP
Until I started shooting Bullseye, I wanted as hard a Lead cast bullet as I could get, and I wanted a lot of neck tension, to keep that bullet from being pushed back into the case. If I used SWC bullets, I used a seater which focused on the nose of the SWC.
The people here encouraged me to use a soft Lead bullet, expand the case to bullet diameter down to the base of the bullet, and use a seater die which contacted the edge of the shoulder. With this soft a bullet, high neck tension would squash bullet diameter quite a bit.
I believe my results are better with the Bullseye techniques.
