Kart Sporting Arms Corp 22 conversion
My newly acquired pistol and I can't get this to run 100%
Mini mags function the best (only shot about 75rds). I get a lot of FTF and would like to shoot SV ammo . I want to start with replacing recoil spring with a lighter one. Let me know if you have links.

Wolf has Kart recoil springs - https://www.gunsprings.com/mID1/dID75
I use the 4lb with CCI sv and Eley club.
I've only had good luck with Kart Mags. Others have had better luck with Colt Ace mags.

Re: Kart Sporting Arms Corp 22 conversion
I bought a GSG 1911 22 magazine from Brownells and it works well. I hope to be able to shoot SV with this thing. I will get springs ordered.
Previous owner had notes written down.
Thanks, MC

What mainspring are you running?

First thing I would check is the chamber. Do the "plop" test. If the round will not drop fully into the chamber all the way to the rim and then turn the barrel upside down and the round fall out, it's a leaded up chamber. Use a 25-27 cal bore brush, in the chamber only, and clean will a round will complete the test. As Dave mentioned, what pound mainspring is in the gun? I normally use a 16-18 pound when I build a conversion.

I don't know what recoil spring is in it. It did not come with extras either...Dcforman wrote:What mainspring are you running?

The mainspring is the small spring in the mainspring housing in your lower. Getting any conversion to function well is about balancing the recoil spring and mainspring (or hammerspring). I generally run 17# mainsprings in my conversions:

I'd get a 17, 18, and 19, and try that before swapping the recoil spring.

Here is what I would suggest.
Do the plop test to eliminate possibility of chamber issue.
Try dropping a slide on a loaded magazine, see if that feeds a round well every time. I mean go through couple of magazines doing this. If it does not that means that magazine / feed lip / angle of feeding is playing a role in your FTF. Not the only role, but role nevertheless. Address that first. What you are doing is eliminating springs from the equation (but not really, if the slide goes back sluggish then you need to increase your recoil spring weight).
Next tune your springs to be not under or over-sprung. I don't have time right now to go into how to diagnose this, but I am sure folks will chime in. It is absolutely a balance of recoil spring and mainspring.

Re: Kart Sporting Arms Corp 22 conversion
Along another line on the Kart conversion, I would like to know where to find some reduced power firing pin springs to install in my Kart and Dwoak conversions.
A 4lb recoil spring seems to work well most of the time with an 18lb mainspring but I do tend to experience misfires with some ammo. if I go up in poundage on the mainspring to reduce misfires, then the slide does not cycle reliably.
I have an original Kart that appears to have a much lighter firing pin spring and it is the most reliable of the four conversions that I own. It is running with a 4lb recoil and 18lb mainspring.
For what it is worth, Wolf Match Target 22 will not cycle any of my Karts in any temperature under 80 degrees. CCI standard works great.
