Trying to get a grip on the S&W model 52
I have tried several grips on my S&W model 52 and none of them work for me. The heel of my hand is pushed out by the arched back strap leaving insufficient pressure at the top of my hand. My biggest problem is in timed and rapid fire, without adequate grip pressure the gun moves around in my hand. If I squeeze tighter, I start to shake. I don't seem to have this problem with my model 41 or my 1911.
Does anyone have a set of grips they love that solves this problem?

the after market grips are difficult to locate. i use the stock grips, i gave up on finding different grips. the sizes marked on the grips do not match my hand accurately. good luck

When I had a M52 I tried several different style and manufacturers grips and settled on the Heret National target grips.
But it still felt like I was trying to grip a 2X4.
I sold it to fund a different project and was happy to see it gone.

yes there are many better options in pistols to shoot the NMC. some of us like the nostalgia of shooting full wagcutter .38's for Bullseye. lolRodger Barthlow wrote:When I had a M52 I tried several different style and manufacturers grips and settled on the Heret National target grips.

Lol I do also and that is why I have one that Larry Luttenegger built on a Caspian 1911 frame and slide which is a better platform design and easier to shoot.ermakevin wrote:yes there are many better options in pistols to shoot the NMC. some of us like the nostalgia of shooting full wagcutter .38's for Bullseye. lolRodger Barthlow wrote:When I had a M52 I tried several different style and manufacturers grips and settled on the Heret National target grips.

I guess I am in your camp when choosing a gun to shoot bullseye. Even though I shoot my 45 better than I do my SW model 52, I simply like the model 52. I only shoot 25 yards, so it should be OK at that distance, if I do my part.

I have Nill adjustable grips on mine, they are quite comfortable. For some reason they only list left-hand model on their website, but I suppose if you contact them, maybe they can make a right-hand version for you.

Thanks for your reply.
I am not sure how these grips are sized. Did you measure your hand and send the measurements to Nill so they could make the grips for you? or did you have to do some work on the grips to make them fit.

No, I actually bought a used gun that had Nill grip on it. The grip doesn't have any markings on it except the Nill logo.

I used anatomical grips for quite a while, except on EIC pistols. The majority of High Masters just used panels, mostly as found on stock factory grips. I followed their trend. There were exceptions, like Dr. Darius Young.

Lyman Products sells Pachmayr grips for a S&W Model 39- fits a Model 52 perfectly. May add some Sugru or putty to better fir your hand.

These are Herrett's. They have a new websight but I think they have changed owners.

Those are beautiful grips. I was at their website but did not see anything like that. I just ordered a set of grips from Dick Horton. Hopefully they will do the job for me.
Thanks,

Hereitt still shows the Custom Target for the model 52.
Customs - Herrett's Stocks (herrettstocks.com)
The links with the pictures don't work but the Custom Order form link does work.
I bought a set for my Model 41 earlier this year, they were $299.00
The diamond checkering might be extra.

How much does a set of Herret grips cost? The Hills are in the $300-350
range.

Re: Trying to get a grip on the S&W model 52
Herrett did go through a change and was re-born with different people at the helm. I could be wrong, but I think it is still in the family so to speak and they were trying to re-start the business. I have purchased a few sets of grips from them and was pleased with the products I received. On anything but "standard" grips they will want an outline of your hand which is important. Small, medium and large won't work for them on custom made grips. It was sad to see the company go out of business for a while, but to see a family member try to get things going again under the Herrett banner was great. I hope business is good for them, but I haven't needed any grips lately so I don't know how they are doing. FYI, the Herrett grips I bought were pricey, but it was worth it to me.

I have Andrews grips for my 1911 and Nelson conversion, while I like them I wanted to try wood grips this time. I ended up with Dick Hortons match grips, see below. They fit well, look good and have reduced the amount of wobble that I notice when looking at my red dot. I like them so much I ordered a pair this morning for my SW model 41.
