More Hammerli 208 questions
I recently purchased a Hammerli 208, and have a few questions. I have read all I could find from Larry’s guns and Ed Hall.
My recoil spring looks pretty good (don’t really see any flat spotting) and was wondering if there is any benefit to some LIGHT greasing to eliminate some of the wear? I can also see some chattering on the slide where the spring hits, should I take some 1000/1500 grit paper and smooth/ polish that out?
Is the place that is supposed to get the moly grease where I have pointed to in the picture? Can it just be done from above at the intersection of the hammer and sear, or is a complete disassembly required?
Should I be concerned with the slight wear mark on the hammer itself, it cannot be felt with my fingernail.
If I want to replace the firing pin, is a 3/32 in (starett) punch ok, or go for the 2.4mm?
Thank you for any advice you can lend

Re: More Hammerli 208 questions
I was waiting for the real pro Hammerli experts to answer, but my opinions:
Light greasing the spring won't help much, but can't hurt.
I would NOT grind anything.
I've moly lubed the sear where you show, should be adequate?
Hammer? Leave it alone.
The shorty 2.4mm is recommended, especially if it's the first time to come out.
Hoping the pros step in here, as I'm curious also.

Re: More Hammerli 208 questions
Thank you for the reply!
I gave it a very light lube- agree with you, can't hurt
I did not grind or polish the slide
I did put some moly lube on the contact point, and left the hammer alone.
For reference, the Starrett punch is labeled 3/32 AND 2.5 mm, but really measures 3.35mm- so seems to work fine, at least for the firing pin retaining pin.
