I Just Scored a 1/2 Case of Pistol Match .22 LR
While driving home from the doctor I spotted a garage sale in progress. I spotted a GI ammo can open with bricks of .22 Pistol Match ammo. I asked
"How much?", holding up a brick. She said "$25--- for all of it" I slowly said "OK".
What was there was:
Three bricks of Western Mark IV pistol Super Match
One brick of Remington Pistol Match
1/2 brick of Federal #900 Gold Medal Match (the kind with the dimpled base)
1/2 brick of CCI Pistol Match
Plus several individual full boxes of RWS pistol Match and R50. Also a box of Federal Ultra Match #UM1B
As well as several partly full boxes of Eley Tenex and Lapua Pistol.
Granted that the stuff is pretty old, but all the brass is shiny and the bullet lube wax shows no sign of migration,
I expect that the ammo is OK.
The stuff belonged to a retired military shooter who had passed away a while back.

Awesome find!
I found 2 unopened 440 round spam cans of 7.62×54mmR for $15 apiece at a garage sale. I had to buy a Mosin–Nagant for $100 so I could shoot 'em!!

Age of .22 Pistol Match Ammo
I wanted to look up the possible age of the ammo that I found in that garage sale. The Western Pistol Match is possibly the
oldest of the stuff . I looked up the info in an old Gil Hebard catalog ( I have them all, dated from 1957).
The 1960/1961 catalog shows the Mk 1V pistol match at $1.25 per box of 50. Same for the Remington Pistol Match. Do you
think that they will function?
BTW--- Bullseye powder was shown at $36 for a 15# keg! A Colt Gold Cup was $125.
My tears were dripping on the pages.

Jerry,
No I don't. That stuff is all too old. I feel bad for you and want to help. Just to show what a swell fellow I am I'll double your $ and pay shipping to my door.

Thanks for Offer
Ron,
Thanks for your offer to get me out of this deal. I will have to decline, and suffer for my mistake.
I took out what I assume to be the oldest ammo in the bunch--- The Remington Pistol match and
the Western Super Match. I assume them to be made in the 1960's. I tried them out in my Nygord-
Kart. My local police range does not permit sandbags and no Ransom Rest was available so I fired
two handed (for reliability only) 30 rounds each at 25 yards. All perfectly reliable-- one big hole.
All the other ammo I assume to be of much more recent manufacture. Does Federal still make
Gold Medal Match and Ultra Match?
We have perfect shooting weather her in the San Diego area. Low 70's, no humidity. No rain
so far this season.

Jerry,
Congratulations on your good fortune! At least you know what a big hearted fellow I am.
It should all shoot that well. I'm not up to speed on Federal's history and product line. The dimpled stuff is probably the oldest of the Fed. I think the dimple was intended to promote an even burn. The WW SuperMatch enjoyed an excellent reputation in it's day.
We are having winter here in the Tampa area this Jan. A couple of cold days predicted for late this week and I am hoping it is the last!
Enjoy the ammo and good shooting!
