Aguila Super Extra - again!
I just got back to shooting and was able to try the "new" Aguila Super Extra that I mail ordered las year and had stored in Oregon over the winter. I tried it in two different Pardini's, a Hammerli 208S and a Marvel - all rounds functioned flawlessly and the accuracy and consistency was as good as the "old" version, as best as I could judge.
I guess that the AgSEx I bought in Phoenix AZ last October was simply a bad batch and not representative of the current production.
Whew! I've got two cases here in Oregon and would have been very annoyed if it was not good. Now I just need to shoot all of it in order to recover my form after 6 months off!

I needed to order some more match ammo TARGET SPORTS. So I added a couple of boxes of the red stripe Aguilla Std. Vel. to compare with my yellow stripe, eley primed std vel.
10 rounds each
Yellow stripe 1007.3 fps avg, std. dev. 18.3 fps
Red stripe 1048.3 fps avg., std. dev. 13.1 fps
All were shot FCW lower ,Marvel Unit 1 conversion

The Red and Black may be temperature sensitive but it is accurate,.

The actual velocity or shot to shot consistency?

With 22 I am not as concerned about velocity, but looking for consistency. There was posts on the red stripe box as not being as good as the old. I have found they are.

Running out of Nelson …
Only problem I’ve run into has been early outdoor season when temps were in 40’s …other than that solid ammo…knock on wood

Aren't the box velocities based on rifle barrels?

Re: Aguila Super Extra - again!
Apparently bad batches of Aguila start from 09, i.e. I have a batch 09FT166 that would not cycle reliably any semi-auto I shoot. However it all would be fine if Aguila provides timely resolution to this issue. This is where I have a "beef" with manufacturer. I submitted claim online on April 17th. I have not heard from Aguila until almost two weeks later (4/29/24), one Brenda Mireles emailed me claim (!) form asking to fill it out and also include purchase receipt. I filled out form, downloaded receipt from vendor's website and submitter both the same day. I have not heard from Ms. Mireles ever since. I have another 2000 rounds box of Aguila SE, batch starting from 14 (14FT122). This batch works fine, although I still have 3-5% cycling issues with Pardini SP22. Nelson 6" Conversion with 9# recoil spring hand Kart 6" Conversion both have about 10% cycling / extraction issues with "good" batch. That in turn led to trying Magtech SV ammo (there were couple of other threads / posts on forum about). Magtech functions all above mentioned guns with less than 2% cycling / extraction issues. So, for now I'm switching to Magtech - I have 10 x 500 rounds plastic jars purchased and used, and first case of 5000 rounds arrived today. Cost wise it is pretty much a wash - about 5.3C/rd taking to account shipping.

Re: Aguila Super Extra - again!
Are these different from the non-copper cladded Aguila? The Aguila I have is all lead bullets.243winxb wrote:Out of 4 different types of Aguila, this one had bullets on the large side. 1255 FPS.
Hard to chamber in my S&W M17 revolver. Target chamber??
No problem in Ruger MK1.

Re: Aguila Super Extra - again!
They are copper coated and high velocity. Produced heavy soot. Cause misfires as carbon builds up quickly on bolt face, slowinf firing pin strike. Federal bulk ammo, no problems.
Ammo will not chamber in Mossberg Target rifle. Defective 5000 rounds of it. No returns. Had 4 month before testing the ammo. Had it to long, they said.
Lucky my well used Ruger MK1 can shoot it. Not for the High Standard. The HS gets CCI Standard Velocity. Have 5000 comming today.
