Wanted- free evaluations! Empty Wanted- free evaluations!

Post by james r chapman Wed May 22, 2024 6:52 pm

This is a recent 25 yd, 22, 900 match target.
I’ve had to go left hand, right eye. Dominates eye doesn’t work as well anymore.

Suggestions?
Is it just sight adjustment? Or too much trigger? Jerking?

Opinions,
Thanks in advance

Looks like a bit of grip and trigger. Maybe a touch of sight adjustment. It is easier to diagnose when watching someone shoot.

So the major change was just the switch from left to right eye?

IIRC you are a left handed shooter.

I have always shot left handed but switched to using my right eye a couple of years ago. My groups tend to look like yours if I do not get a proper grip on the pistol. I have to rotate the gun slightly counter clockwise to get the sights to align with my eye. I think of it like a slightly exaggerated Zins grip. If I break my wrist slightly I can get proper sight alignment but I tend to straighten it back during sustained fire and get shots to the right.

Greetings,

I shoot right hand with my left eye dominant.

I have the crank the windage about 2 turns to the right to zero.

Some pistols I shoot have run out of adjustment!!! Grrrrr....

In your situation, do you find the sights need to move to the left?

Cheers,

Dave

I shoot right-handed with a blind right eye.  To see the sights, I need to bend my wrist to the left.

I find it difficult to recover the sights to the target during timed and rapid fire.  My recoil is high and left.  I need to actively move the gun back into position.

When I experimentally shoot with gun in line with my forearm, the gun returns to its original position.  That is the way many people talk about recoil recovery.  Of course, this experiment is not an aimed shot.

I have been wondering how to build a "periscope" like device to move my view over to my right side.

How do you compensate for your cross dominate shooting.

James,

From your post it would appear you are left handed and left eye dominant.  Sorry to hear that left eye is no longer working too well.  I am left-handed but have been shooting right-handed for years because I am right-eye dominant.

I can think of a couple of shooters who, for various reasons, have had to switch from right to left-handed shooting.  Dave Salyer and Adam Sokolowski have both made that switch and have actually excelled with their non-preferred hand.  I would suggest you reach out to one or both of them to see if they can offer some suggestions.

Mike

So, I'm probably "telling Grandma.......", but I know that Rink, for example, offer grips with a 7.5 degree "offset" for precisely this issue. No doubt our resident 3D grip printer, Andrew, can conjure up whatever style and offset you fancy!

I tried using my other eye tonight while dry firing.  What I found was if I stand with a completely closed stance (perpendicular to the shooting line), I really have to turn my head a lot to line up with my left eye (I'm right handed).  I found if I opened my stance, it became much more comfortable.  I probably opened it about 30 to 40 degrees from perpendicular.

I concurr with experimenting w/ a stance change. I am having trouble w/ pain and strength in my shooting arm shoulder and am trying to strengthen it.

If you have changed to your off arm, try strengthening it w/ weights or holding the pistol in the shooting position for a minute or so.

Good luck Jim!
