2024 NRA indoor sectional results posted
I shot the NRA indoor sectional at Broome County Sportsmen's in Windsor NY on March 2. The results are posted on the NRA site. June 6th is the last day to challenge the results. None of the scores from the Broome County match are listed. The Broome County match director has contacted the NRA. No answer yet. Anyone else have this problem?

Glad you got to shoot the Sectional at all. Not even offered here in western New York.

Historically sectional results take an extensive amount of time to be posted. Many clubs stopped shooting the sectional because the results never would get posted and for a period of time the NRA had some significant issues specifically related to the match.

Here in new york, our very own Bruce Martindale coordinates an 1800 match (.22 900 + CF 900) in the spring to see how us ny'ers do amongst ourselves. NRA not needed, but it was nice to see how the rest of the country faired when sectionals were popular.

Jwax: I don’t think that it’s just Bullseye pistol that’s on life support. The participation in Smallbore rifle is dwindling fast. There is some, but participation is not even half what it was in the 80s.
IMO, when USA Shooting was created NRA was essentially left holding a bag of fecal matter and Smallbore lost a lot of young people in the NRA program. That and the loss of school shooting in HS and colleges as well as the closure of some ranges, it was a huge blow.

We ( there’s a group of us) are working to rebuild competitive shooting in NY and elsewhere . Some of our problems come from gun club leadership itself. Other sports are also working to remove our facilities and that’s not helping. It also doesn’t help that the national boards are overloaded.

We're doing our part on the Left Coast behind enemy lines as well!

Re: 2024 NRA indoor sectional results posted
My home club began Bullseye in the 1930s/40s beginning with Army L. Registered matches regularly starting after WW-II. We had 45 firing points. We hosted 3 day Regionals and two day State Championships requiring two relays each day. Last year when DCM (now CMP) was free to shoot and ammo provided, we had 143 competitors. (We offered loaner guns to all club members to shoot.)
That was then.
Now we have Cowboy, IDPA, IPSC, PPC and Steel Challange.
Range rebuilt in late 90s and firing pints reduced by club board to 30 due to dwindling participation. Club just bult a new brand new shooting range building. Precision Pistol reduced to 20 firing points, again due to dwindling attendance and increased interest in the other venues.
At the moment we are filling the line and have a waiting list for our monthly Registered 2700.
The reality is that looking on the firing line there "might" be one of two shooters in their 40s. Occasionally one in their 30s, Majority is all 60+.

Speaking from someone who is on the leadership committee of a gun club (though not in NY), It is very difficult to have the club allow matches and bear the cost of maintaining specialized equipment. When a match participants local to the club are not members of the club. It is much easier to promote events and equipment maintenance that benefits club members rather than people (who often have an attitude of disdain towards non-bullseye shooters) that show up to shoot a match when convenient for them.bruce martindale wrote:We ( there’s a group of us) are working to rebuild competitive shooting in NY and elsewhere . I highly recommend that shooters become members of the clubs that are local to them that host bullseye shooting. Also please don't talk down to people who don't "get" this sport.
I will get off the proverbial soap box now.

"Some of our problems come from gun club leadership itself. "
This is just another indication of declining interest/participation. I shot at a club for 36 yrs. Pretty much during the heyday of BE. We were the club leadership. BE shooters were the largest group, dominating the officers and board. There were monthly (winter) matches, an active league, and Friday evenings were for BE practice or league.
I moved away 20 yrs ago but understand there are NO BE shooters left so after a decline there are no matches and lawyers control the board making ridiculous range use rules.
At least at that club, leadership is merely a reflection of the memberships interests.
The several other types of shooting, often offering an easier learning curve are no small factor in our decline.
In those days past if pistol shooting was mentioned it meant what is now called Precision Pistol....another reflection of the times, this changing of names or taking names away.
It was great run.
