Springfield parts interchangeable?
I have one of these. https://springfieldgunstore.com/springfield-1911-trophy-match-45acp-stainless-steel/
I replaced the hammer with machined skeletonized "target" one.
I do not like the beavertail grip safety, it makes it awkward to cock the hammer manually. The beavertail recess covers the spur at full cock requiring an odd maneuver to get my thumb over the front of the hammer. The set up is a bit "sketchy" for me. I have never been bitten by a slide of a 1911, or any other pistol for that matter. I also never had a reason to want the extra bump on the grip part.
The ambidextrous safety is silly. I am right handed. Removing the safety involves extra steps and removing the right grip panel.
I'd be happier with a traditional safety and grip safety.
Are the generic 1911 safety parts usable in a Springfield with fitting?

sure, std. thumb safety will work but need fitting typically as will a new grip safety. grip safeties are either a 250 radius or 220.. I believe the SA uses compound radius for their grip safeties and a 220 radius will fit best with some blending..

The grip safety and thumb safety can be replaced with traditional parts. Both pieces must be fit to the pistol. The thumb safety must be fitted where it engages the sear and the grip safety must be fitted where it engages the rear of the trigger stirrup. Other fitting may be required, but these points affect the safety of the pistol.
I’m left handed but prefer standard ones on BE guns since they are only used during tech inspection.

Out of curiosity, why are you thumbcocking a 1911? Just rack the slide.

Re: Springfield parts interchangeable?
For fun I decided to reshape the beavertail upsweep that surrounds the hammer. I reduce the upsweep and the length. That worked out fine. IT looks good and works much better.
I wonder if Springfield's lawyers had them use the super long beavertail to prevent the hammer from being hit if the pistol is dropped.
While still having too much nervous energy I decided to reshape the ugly pad that hits your palm. Unfortunately being a Springfield made cheezie MIM part the inside was hollowed out like a waffle. I broke through to the void inside. I can put a drop of silver solder in the void and will not show. I hate MIM parts.
I bet Springfield will not sell me new one.

Huh? Does that mean that Springfield's "tacticool" safety will not pass tech inspection at a serious match?

Ambi thumb safeties are legal. Over the years I’ve realized I never use it, other people may. About the only time the safety on my gun is engaged is to test it. But it’s required to be functional. I only use and load my gun at the bench. It’s either loaded or the action is open.
Sorry for the confusion.

I use my other hand to reset the hammer while dry firing and have the same grip safety. I also pull the trigger while do this to protect the sear. Not sure why the grip safety gets in the way of this operation I have done many thousand times.

Re: Springfield parts interchangeable?
I have the same pistol. I like it a lot, but don't use it for bullseye pistol match shooting. I do have a Cylinder and Slide fire control unit installed and a fitted barrel bushing. I have a couple of old Clark accurized Colts for that, although I am long retired. They are purpose built, so I never felt the need to modify anything on them, except the grips, and now they wear standard panels. I almost never used the manual safety in bullseye matches or while training. The pistol was either loaded, while in the hand, or empty on the bench. Since the firing pin on a 1911 is impelled forward by inertia, I'd say that lawyers had nothing to do with the shape or length of the beavertail grip safety.

In my experience, these parts do require fitting. i found this book to be very easy to read, understand and follow:

Re: Springfield parts interchangeable?
EGW makes a replacement grip safety intended for my Springfield. I am on the waiting list for the next production run. Fitting the parts is not a problem for me.
Anyone ever put one of these Springfield 1911A1 "target" pistols in a ransom rest? What were the results?
My practice load is 4 grain of bullseye and a Accurate Molds 45-185A @14BHN.

My Springfield range officer when stock shot 3" at 50 yards from a ransom rest. I know of other that were a bit better, others worse.Scota4570 wrote:EGW makes a replacement grip safety intended for my Springfield. I am on the waiting list for the next production run. Re: Springfield parts interchangeable?
Couple of mods you can look at to improve your Springer.
Measure your barrel OD and the slide area for your bushing then order an Egw custom angle bore bushing for those sizes..
Measure your slide stop. Most are around
195-6. If so, get an egw slide stop that will be .200.
Those two changes generally help quite a bit

My Trophy Match held 9 ring (save 2 fliers that were called) when shot off-hand by a teammate. It was completely stock at the time, has since been upgraded with EGW gunsmith fit bushing, oversized slide stop pin, and ignition kit . Ammo was Zero 185gr SWHP, 3.6gr BE, 0.469 crimp. Now running 0.465 crimp but otherwise the same load. My Springfield was my first 1911, and was a great starting point for 2700s.

Re: Springfield parts interchangeable?
Thanks for the ideas. I have a part on order with EGW, when it becomes available I'll get the others that were suggested. I have already installed the ignition kit.
In the mean time I think it would be best to take the human factor out of accuracy testing.
I can shoot very small groups with a scope. Iron sights are not so consistent for me.
I ordered a Ransom rest earlier today. Done..., no more guessing.
