Barrel Bushing install
Looking for a Bullseye Smith who can install a barrel bushing on my 1911 38 Super and not take two years to do it since everyone is backed up with full builds.
As is the bushing slides off the barrel like it is on ball bearings and the groups wonder all over the place. The barrel shot great when it was first built but time or poor metal quality in the bushing has had its toll on the bushing, the barrel is a Kart custom fit the frame and slide are Caspian.

Re: Barrel Bushing install
Bushings are pretty easy to install. I have purchased EGW gunsmith fit bushings. You measure the barrel diameter and specify that size. It will fit the barrel fairly close but generally not tight. Measure the slide opening inside diameter and specify that OD for the bushing. In my experience that results in a bushing that will not fit in the slide. To reduce the OD of the bushing take a 1 inch strip of sandpaper and wrap it around the bushing then rotate the bushing in the sandpaper. Make it tight enough to sand but loose enough to turn. Try to sand uniformly around the bushing. Remove metal until it fits snugly in the slide. Reduce the OD till it fits in the slide to your preference. You can also order slightly undersized ID and fit in a like manner to get an even tighter barrel fit. But if the ID is too tight the barrel will not lock up properly.
I like the thick flange, straight bore bushings.
I’m not a gunsmith, not affiliated with EGW. I have fit several bushings to factory guns and it generally makes a noticeable difference.
If not, I would recommend Dave Salyer. He is recovering from an accident but may be taking new work.

Re: Barrel Bushing install
I did an angle bored bushing on my SA A1. Slide and muzzle of the barrel needed a bit of lapping to get them round. Ground the OD of the bushing to fit. And made a fixture to hold the bushing at the lockup angle to bore it. A teeny bit of lapping, and then stoning relief in the bushing so it would unlock.
Hood has clearance still, but otherwise it locks up tight. Maybe someday finish it with a spare KKM I have gathering dust. Just for fun.
