Burris fast fire III 1911 Mount?
now im feeling dumb. i purchased a Burris FastFire III since that seemed to be the best value for a red dot,
now im have difficulty locating a mount for it to fit a Colt Gold Cup..
i tried the Burris #410321 1911 standard mount, this does not seem to fit.
i also tried the Adjustable Novak sight base # 410322 to no success.
these are the two basses that Burris offers for the Colt 1911.
is there a special base for the Gold Cup?
is one of these the correct mount and im missing something with the attachment?
in need of help. (according to my wife in more ways then this) ha

It is a totally different mount for the Gold Cup. Clark makes a rail that fits.I was having trouble finding one and just called Clark and they sent me one out the next day. You can check with Bullseye.Gear, a sponsor here they also have them in stock sometimes.

Marvel Custom Guns also has a nice base in stock to fit the Gold Cup. You would want the Model PT-51-1 which has the four grooves. You can call them at 410-557-6545. I was bored so I looked it up.

Len,
I think the OP it talking about the "new" gold cup. Round slide top, and recessed rear sight, dovetail front.
Am I right ermakevin?
If so, there was a similar discussion thread regarding mounting a FFIII to a Springfield RO. They listed some parts from other manufacturers that would make it possible to mount.
User Alex Alphabet has a custom made one for the RO that he isn't using anymore...Maybe it will work for you, and he might sell it.

I was going to ask for clarification on *which* Gold Cup--old or new.
New, it sure ain't your Daddy's Gold Cup.
Stoopidest thing on in, IMO, is shipping it with wraparound grips that are NOT DCM-Legal.
Changing the rear sight was smart, though the end of an era.
But going to the round top slide was too much for me. Colt regained its talent for screwing up its own product line.

Re: Burris fast fire III 1911 Mount?
Thanks, you guys are a wealth of information.
Yes, I’m from New York where the Walther GSP is an assault pistol. What A-hole thought that one up?
i neglected to mention what type of Gold Cup (series 70) that would be the old style, hard to imagine that is the old style.
I am calling Clark straightaway.
I have to convince my wife that I need a backup pistol. Or two….
I do miss my .32 Erma. I’m trying to find a magazine that works or a gunsmith who can braze mine.
When I look this time it’s going to be hard to find a BE pistol that has the magazine in the grip, which is the only legal pistol in New York these days. I have to move….

Does not look good for that mount, it seems like all the mounts need to be drilled and tapped.
i hate to cut into a series 70 Gold Cup.

Re: Burris fast fire III 1911 Mount?
well now im feel real dumb seems that the FFIII does not have a mount for the series 70 Gold CUP. i spoke to Mr Marvel himself he stated he makes only rails with rings for matchdots. he said there is not much call for micro dot bases for the Gold Cup.
i guess im SOL, unless i can find someone to make a custom base. crap

Is this the same Colt that had the Optima 2000 mounted on it? How was the Optima mounted? Maybe you can make use of that mount some way. Pictures might help.

Gold cup series 70 microdot base.
yes same Colt, i tried the old mount, the FFIII will not fit .
i should have researched a lot more before i acquired the microdot.
im still trying to locate someone who may have somthing that will work.

Re: Burris fast fire III 1911 Mount?
I might be wrong but I thought the Optima had an upper and a lower half. There are 2 screws holding the top half to the lower. The lower or base should have 4 pins that align the top half just like the FF III. If it does you might be able to use the lower half with the FF III. The pins might be a different size / not sure.
The Optima, Docter, JPoint and FF all shared similar mounting systems.
The reason I say that is Brownells use to sell different mounts for it.
I should have been clear pictures of the Optima would help.
Below is a pic for a BoMar style mount.

Yes the top looks good but the slot on the bottom is a show stopper. only if that raised slot was parallel with the sight.

Re: Burris fast fire III 1911 Mount?
ermakevin,
to mount your fastfire you will need a machinist to make you an adapter that pins in and fits the channel for your slide. You will have to drill a hole in the mounting plate for the rear screw.
Colt made a zillion million series 70 gold cups. It's cool to keep it bone stock, but if you did have it drilled for a full rail it's not like you are ruining the Sistine chapel or anything.
Make the gun functional the way you want.
If you do go with the full rail, I think this rail is the one you should choose. http://www.marvelcustomguns.com/1911_new_gold_cup.htm
The front sight stays in place and is hidden in the slot on the rail. If you ever want to switch back to irons, you just unscrew the rail and put the rear sight back on.

Your Optima fit the Gold Cup right? Did you try and take the base off your Optima to see if it will fit the FF?

Re: Burris fast fire III 1911 Mount?
i tried to mount he FFIII to the Optima mount it is not even close. it is too short lengthwise to work with the FFIII.
here is a pic of the Optima mount, i cant understand why a mount that fits the Goldcup cannot be made to use with the new microdots????? very upsetting, to say the least.

With your Optima mount, the bottom plate for the FastFire mount, and my welder, I could make a functional mount for you.
It would not be pretty, but it would work.

Re: Burris fast fire III 1911 Mount?
A machinist might be able to duplicate the pattern that appears on your Optima mount into the base for your fast fire. That would look and work nice.

Give John of BME mounts a call, he does a great job on all kinds of specialty mounts. With your Optima as a pattern he may be able to help you out. We just worked with him to develop a mount for the Model 52 and new Ultradot L/T and it is perfect.

Re: Burris fast fire III 1911 Mount?
I have a very solid no drill mount on a newer Gold Cup like above and a Range Officer. I can share the parts if that helps.
I tried to post a picture but I didn't want to join some picture service.

HEY!! In ssds's thread he listed THIS part--I believe it will adapt from your Optima mount to the FastFire base: http://www.jprifles.com/buy.php?item=ARR-JP/DR
If that part works, then you are 1 and done!!
Oh, and SSDS, you can host a picture on the forum server by clicking the icon that looks like a TV with a floppy disk in front of it. No service required.

Re: Burris fast fire III 1911 Mount?
my story
i had to have the Burris #410321 mount cut in half.
i had to sand flat, the top of the old Optima 1911 mount.
i had to have these two parts welded together.
light coat of flat black
attached to Gold Cup
dont know if i can zero it yet.
i will find out this weekend.

No drilling, welding, cutting required. BFIII on RO and STS on GC. Very solid mounts.
