Do the Springfield Armory locking mainspring housings use standard size/length mainsprings.

No, they aren't. The SA mainspring that comes with the ILS lock is 28#s of thicker wire and is shorter than a std mainspring to accomodate the overly long mainspring cap. To replace the spring with a normal one you also need a std mainspring cap and may as well get a conventional mainspring cap retaining pin at the same time.

I second this, was working on a target loaded and when I took the MSH apart I thought who put this huge chunk of metal in here? That explains why I had a hard time with disassembly it was too big. Now I know it was original, swapped in a standard 23# spring and standard cap. Life is good again.

Even though the gun has been working fine with a standard mainspring all these months....I do have the CORRECT one on order from Wolff.
For 4 bucks it isn't worth the wondering if the wrong one will fail.
Off to run the dawg

There's nothing "wrong" with the SA mainspring - as long as you're using their extra length mainspring cap to accomodate the spring's shorter length.
You would have a hell of a job getting the SA std long mainsping cap into the MSH with a conventional length spring...altho I did see it done once - trigger was a beast to cock and had about a 20 lb pull.

Re: SA locking MS housing
The "wrong" combo I'm talking about is the goldcup std length mainspring. It was no big deal to put in and the gun has a decent trigger and functions fine. (18# wolff)

So, not the SA std mainspring that the OP asked about.

Re: SA locking MS housing
the gun came with the short fat spring & internal lock mechanism
but I came across a reduced weight std length main spring
maybe the reduced weight combined with the longer overall length added it to the same amount of stored energy as the spring that came with the gun...in any case the combination works
