State Teams - How are they made?
So on another thread there were discussions of the State team and "burning" members.
How does a state team get put together and what is "burning"?

CMP rules 4 shooting members, one team captain and one coach. One of the shooting members has to be a "New" shooter. Having never shot in the NTT (National Trophy Team) match previously. You can only do it once. Well twice if you do it the first time as a Junior. You need to get 4 members within your state to shoot at Camp Perry during the NTT. Normally arranged by your state organization.

Re: State Teams - How are they made?
the term Burn shooter is the one team member who has never shot during an NTT event. I was the burn shooter on the Ohio team last year.
The year prior James Morman was the burn shooter. He beat me by a point or two in both the P100 and the NTI. And I was shooting well, he just shot better.

Re: State Teams - How are they made?
Thanks for the info. So this is specific to the EIC match at the end of Perry? Is it just one team per state?
Not that I am ready to join a team any time soon, but I didn realize that each state has its own organization for bullseye. Where would I find out who runs my state's organization?
Thanks, Doug

This is just for the Service Pistol team match on Sunday afternoon. Any CMP affiliated club can field a team for the NTT.

Re: State Teams - How are they made?
Actually, you have 2 questions here with slightly different answers. Since the CPM references the NRA rule book sometimes, this can get confusing.
The makeup of "State Association Teams" are governed by the NRA rules. There are limits on military and police makeup of the team, etc.
The "burning" of shooters refers to the require for the CMP team match that each team must have a "new" shooter, that is one member that has never shot the National Team Trophy match before. This is in the CMP rules.
As generally mentioned, it is recommended to get a copy of the rules (NRA and CMP) and become familiar with some of the more often encountered situations the rules address.
