One Disadvantage of Red Dots aka Warts
One of the disadvantages of shooting with a red dot is that it is more difficult to handle in strong crosswinds, at least that was my impression yesterday while comparing a gun without a red dot. I never would would've thought the extra surface area with the added red dot would make a difference but it did for me.

Depending on wind speed I can feel the difference between a 14 with no underlug and my 586 with the underlug.
2 options: wait for a break in the wind or shoot when it's steady. Everyone else has to deal with it too and scores will reflect it.
Shooting in the wind can be great practice for when to or not to abort a shot.

+1 There was a reason my friend told me to strap my shoot box to the bench! I've only been the one time (2013), it was windy but not like the year people talk about, when the benches blew away .

Last year at NRA rifle, they measured 60 mph gusts coming off the lake. The wooden uprights were breaking and targets blowing back toward the line. We had a delay and then a cancellation.
At the June match we had driving rain and had targets blowing out of the frames toward the lake during the slow prone.
