Wandering Rings and Red-dots
I have been reading a great deal lately about the wandering red-dot rings on the Pardini. Obviously caused by relaying upon metal to metal
friction on the clamped rings.
Now I don't have that problem as I use a Hammerli 208 which uses Weaver or Pickatinny slotted rails. I have yet to see a ring migrate on my
mount or red-dot tube.
Can't the Pardini be adapted to use a Weaver or Pickatinny slotted rail?
Let's have you opinion on this.

Jerry,
If I'm not mistaked the Pardini uses a ring similar/same as .22 tip off ring. It has no ability to have a cross slot like the Weaver. If I'm not mistaken Jerry Keefer said the top of the receiver is too thin to drill and tap for mounting a weaver base.

Are the slipping rings aluminum metal that won't dig in? Aluminum clamping on steel might not be as good as steel clamping on aluminum.

Re: Wandering Rings and Red-dots
This has been a super outstanding set up. Four years of heavy use, so far.. Not one issue. As Jon mentioned, the top strap on these is super thin.. I don't think many smith's are going to chance drilling and tapping this expensive frame..I have received more than a few requests for this set up, but I declined them. I used # 10 - 24 screws to get some extra bite in the aluminum. The rear screw is longer and extends down into the thicker frame section. There are two at the front which extend one full thread thru the thin top strap to ensure good, full thread contact. The top of the bolt is clearanced to eliminate possible contact during cycling. I do not like the dovetailed Pardini grooves.. Very small, very weak..But, the Pardini is designed for open sight international competition, and just happens to be, a great bullseye gun.

Re: Wandering Rings and Red-dots
I believe PardiniUSA has attempted this already but advises that it raises the red dot too high. They are apparently working on alternate solutions, especially since the popularity of their .32 ACP conversion. I'll send them an email and ask if they might post a response on this forum. They've responded to similar questions and concerns on TargetTalk.jerry lehrer wrote:I have been reading a great deal lately about the wandering red-dot rings on the Pardini. Re: Wandering Rings and Red-dots
I don't have a Pardini but I have had to mount a lot of things to aluminum. Instead of drilling and taping the frame can you come up thru it and secure to a solid drilled and tapped rail ? I mounted rings on my plastic framed air pistol by doing just that. The frame may not allow sufficient access to the areas that you need to drill and counter sink (if needed) but it might. Just throwing this out as another idea. The air pistol....

OldMaster65 - I think that's one of the ideas PardiniUSA is pursuing. It would be helpful if they would join in on the discussion.

FYI, the Pardini rail is a 19mm European dove tail. There are rings made for it, they are just hard to find in the states.
