Range Officer origin
I've seen some Springfield Armory pistols with frames stamped 'Made in Brazil'. Is the Range Officer one of them?

None that I've ever seen. I've only seen them with the Geneseo, IL stamping with the NM prefix for the serial number.

No the range officer frames are usa made, and carry the NM before the serial number.

Re: Range Officer origin
For the past several years no 1911s were made anywhere other than here in the USA. That relationship with Imbel appears to be over.

So, who's making the frames now?

Unknown USA supplier. I wouldn't worry.

Re: Range Officer origin
I was always under the impression that all of Springfields frames were made in Brazil.
I heard (can't remember where) that the guns that had 50% or more of the fit/finish work in the USA where marked Geneseo IL and NM guns and the ones that had less than 50% were marked made in Brazil.
Has someone heard otherwise from Springfield.
Kurt

All Springfield 1911 frames and slides back years ago were made in brazil, NM marked guns were built mostly in the USA but they discontinued the brazil built champion guns and if they still make the parts out of country they don't talk about it.

Re: Range Officer origin
Having built many SA pistols over the years, I do not think there is a noticeable difference between the quality of all the frames no matter the origin. But the RO definitely has a better frame to slide fit than milspec pistols.

Here's my test target from Springdield. Hard to argue. Good fun for the $$$. Not even shot with match ammo. Just bulk federal ball.

So what did Springfield say when you told them it wouldn't hold 6" at 25 yds?

Hell, if your willing to send it to me, tell us why you won't warranty it with Springfield?

Re: Range Officer origin
I can score above 250 in the NMC with hand loads and I'm a novice. Good enough to get leg points and I'm only in $800. Springfield has fixed every defect I've discovered. Nothing negative to say. Great service. I'm happy. Is it the best, no, is it good enough to start, yes.

Re: Range Officer origin
I shot my RO for the first time at the end of a practice session. This was several months ago. This is offhand, 25 yds, totally out of the box. Shot on two centers. Then I discovered those seven boolits was all I had left. I superimposed the two papers.
Oh yeah. Bad original trigger and all. This RO now has a KC Ax set, and is under a Nelson. Better trigger but too long a roll and leads with a little creep. I am not sure it will stay installed.
A second RO I found has a real good trigger right out of the box. Couldn't pass the second one up because of the trigger.

Well, if a "bucket" gun will shoot 1/4 @ 50 yards , I can't suggest anyone that can help your RO....
