9mm Loads for SA RO
I,ve read a lot of threads and articles regarding 9mm loads for accuracy. My SA full size RO has a 1 in 10 twist and most say load light. Some say hot loads get better group results. I'd welcome any and all comments regarding this issue. I'm still looking for the sweet spot my RO likes and up to now have used only 4.0 grn TG for 115 and 124 FMJ and plated at varying COAL's. Any ideas? Thanks.

Try a 124gr cast bullet or Hornady JHP.

Are you certain you have a 10" twist barrel in your Range Officer? I'm pretty sure you will find it to be a 16" twist like all the other 9mm 1911's. I'd love to find some 10" twist 1911 barrels.

Thanks for the correction, Doc. I misread the spec. but still looking for whether light or hot loads are better for grouping.Dr.Don wrote:Are you certain you have a 10" twist barrel in your Range Officer? The best group in mine is with 6.1 gr Power Pistol behind a 115gr Hornady HAP. So semi "hot" is better for me. I have tried lighter loads and the not so occasional flier sucks. YMMV

Thanks, Len. I also get at least 1 flyer in my 5-shot groups....and sometimes the same ammo will change zero 2-3" to the high right and I shoot lefty. I cannot get my groups below 3" at 50 ft using a bench and pistol rest. I sent my RO to SA last week for grouping evaluation and am waiting for a result. I'm risking $40 in shipping if it's "in spec" but it's worth it if there is something amiss (pun intended) with my RO and then no cost to me. I reduced my pull to 44-48 oz. and a 2-hour inspection revealed nothing obvious except sloppy barrel/bushing fit and at least .010" play, slide to front of frame rails. I'll post a thread when I get the results.

Re: 9mm Loads for SA RO
Bigtrout, I fired the RO with 6.1 PP and 115gr HAP bullets after I put the Briley bushing in. I am 100% certain the flyer was the person behind the pistol not the ammos fault. This was the best of the targets I shot with the pistol (who posts their worst?). 25 yd offhand.

Thanks, Len. Your offhand target looks like my target at 50 ft. with bench and pistol rest, resting the frame underbelly and my forearms. That's why I sent it back to SA after 550 rounds of frustration using 3 different 115 RN factories and many variations of handloads.
