Perry first time pistol questions
I have been to Perry 3 times for Rifle, but this will be the first time I have gone to pistol. I have a few questions.
1. I see from photos that people strap their boxes to the tables. Should I use a Ratchet strap or bungees?
2. Is the regular clamp that comes with a box good enough to keep it from closing with a high wind or should I add a C clamp to my gear?
3. How do people keep their boxes dry in the rain? I can cut a trash bag to fit over the box and still let me scope, but is it worth the trouble. I've never had to think about a possibly water logged Gung Ho box before.
I guess that is it at this point. I know where too register, checkin for housing, how to find the mess hall etc etc.

Mike,
1. I use a double bungee that I leave on my box all the time.
2. I use a regular spring loaded clamp. It stood up in 50mph winds in ND, it will stand up to the gentle breezes of Perry.
3. Yup, big trash bag to cover the entire box. If it's really crappy, don't worry about scoping your shots. If you're sighted in and the dot was there at the trigger break, it's in.
Good luck.

Your brass catcher will need a clamp.

And your garbage bag will need a garbage bag.
(Actually, I'd recommend ditching the brass catcher at Perry and just police your brass at the end of your relay. There's enough to keep track of even without the Sharpshooter Net.)
Grease pencil for keeping score, gallon Ziploc bag for putting your clipboard in. Extra batteries in a small ziploc bag. Extra ziploc bags of various sizes. A hat with a brim, for keeping the rain off of your glasses. A towel. A towel for your towel. A towel for that towel.

John is right. I believe there is an unwritten rule that prohibits the use of a brass catcher once you hit High Master. Then you must wait until you are a Grand Senior and you will be entitled to use one of those golf club thingys with wire on the end so you don't have to bend over to pick them up.

All the above is good advice. Take along a hair dryer...not for your hair...for your equipment.

Replace the grease pencil with a pen from fisher, writes in water and upside down, ebay.. 10 bucks, or office depot sells fisher refills to fit parker pens for 5 bucks, picking up brass sucks with a bad knee, I use a pickup tool from harbor freight 6.bucks. And you will be required to pick it up, unless its muddy and you stomp it out of sight.

David which hf tool?
I've used the plastic grabbers and find the useless for much other than catching flies.

Never mind, I found it. Has any successfully used the nut gatherers to pick up brass at Perry. I know they work on gravel, but I've never seen one on grasson grass

I'd say even in the best conditions at Perry they wouldn't work very well and with the rain they have been having - worthless.

Re: Perry first time pistol questions
I don't use my brass catcher at Perry. Although they say they will give you time to set up your equipment, they barley give you time to open your box and adjust your scope. I do not want to waste time with a brass catcher.
I did have a guy get mad at me one time because I wasn't using a brass catcher and he was getting hit with the brass.
Anyway, the best way I can put it is be concerned with the the part of the round that goes down range and not so much the part of the cartridge that gets ejected from the side of the gun.

Thats why screens are allowed. I was told by a HighPower shooter when I first started "once the brass leaves your gun it's no longer your problem, until it's time to police your brass".
