Atlana Arms and Ammo 9mm ammo
First topic message reminder :
I am interested in duplicating the Atlanta Arms and Ammo 9mm 115 MATCH loading. Has anyone ran this ammo across a chronograph? It would be helpful.

ANDYZ28, My results were close to yours on the factory AA 9MM 115gr
Chrono results 20 rounds each - I was RR'ing through the chrono / multitasking
FMJ averaged 1180fps - AA doesn't post a FPS for this round. Ave.group size just over 1.5"
JHP averaged 1105fps - as advertised. Ave. group size <1.5" two 5 shot groups were under 1"!
Loads
JHP 115gr Hornady HAP, OAL of 1.090", with new Starline brass:
5.4gr of WSF averaged 1118fps
4.8 of VV 320 was in the same ballpark (I didn't save the file)
Group sizes were slightly larger than factory just over 1.5" WSF was better than the VV320 but very close. Gun was a KC built 9MM with KKM 1-32 twist barrel .
No reload testing on FMJ
Crimp
Basically the taper crimp is used to make the case straight again, no excessive crimp on the case just enough to close the mouth.

If Atlanta Arms ammo has a muzzle velocity of 1100 fps, that is subsonic. Most of the accepted handloads are supersonic through their flight. I would guess that one would want one or the other, not transitional, but I'm no aeronautical engineer or ballistics expert.

1126 fps is the speed of sound, generally, dependent on a whole bunch of variables...

Never had my 45 match loads anywhere near 900fps let alone above 1150. With 2.4gr Clays in my M52 .38 spl. shooting HBWC it would take a pretty strong tail wind to get them over 700 fps. LOL

The OP is trying to duplicate the Atlanta Arms load in 9mm. It always pays to read the original post and maybe a few subsequent posts, but I suppose I should have been more specific with my post.dronning wrote:BE Mike wrote:... Most of the accepted handloads are supersonic through their flight.

I know I was having fun with you, I have been following and commenting on the thread from the beginning.BE Mike wrote:

The AA N9115XTP Match round runs 1100 fps (subsonic) and their 10 5 shot groups are accurate <1.25" @ 50 yards. That's why I'm duplicating the JHP verses their FMJ round which runs hotter (approx. 1200fps) - plus I got a super deal on 3,000 Hornady HAP bullets. LOL

Re: Atlana Arms and Ammo 9mm ammo
That's what I figured, Dave. It seems like working up match grade ammo for the 9mm is a lot harder than the old .45 ACP. A lot more is dependent upon the barrel twist, etc. I can shoot the reliable Nosler load in any accurate 1911 and get good to great groups. The 9mm can be made to shoot even better groups, but getting there isn't as easy.dronning wrote:I know I was having fun with you, I have been following and commenting on the thread from the beginning.BE Mike wrote:

I don't work on 9s any longer but, I managed to dig up some test targets from about 11 years ago.. These were all fired with 6.1 of Power Pistol

Jerry,
Were those from several guns or one? Those are some great 50 yard groups.

Re: Atlana Arms and Ammo 9mm ammo
AHA! I knew I saw a posting by JPGOV regarding 9mm and the powder Atlanta Arms uses. It was on another board:
"AA USES A BULK POWDER NOT AVAILABLE TO US. THE CLOSEST CANISTER POWDER IS THE WSF
BEST 50YD ACCURACY 5.0 GR VV330
TIED FOR 2ND 4.8 VV320 OR 5.4 WSF.
ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE. JIM P
PS SOMEONE HAD SAID PPC USES LIGHT LOADS. THAT MAYBE TRUE IN 38 SPL BUT NOT IN 9MM

Their 115gr FMJ round (Steel Challenge, USPSA, IPSC, Army Marksmanship Unit) runs right around 1200 FPS and their 115gr JHP (PPC Matches, Bianchi Cup, Steel Challenge) runs 1100 FPS. That's probably where the "lighter" comment came from.

They only post the JHP speed which the batch I bought tested as claimed 1100fps. I also bought their FMJ rounds and they tested a touch more than 100fps faster or 1215fps. I couldn't feel any difference in recoil.
