My first thread didn't go through, so again.  What do you guys think of an S&W 986 for a bullseye platform?  If I dove in I would get new grips and an Ultradot.  Some reviews I saw online are a little disconcerting regarding initial quality.

I shot one a couple of weeks ago.  Fun to shoot.  It put 'em where I pointed.  The owner said he was battling it a bit due to case length.  It only liked Starline....I think, and one other case that I can't remember.

I think it would be a fun BE gun for those who like shooting revolvers, and I'd like to see how it would do at 25 yards with reduced loads.

I think it would be fantastic.  May be my next gun. I do wonder how it would compare to a model 14 38spl with a 6" barrel, which I do have. A thousand dollars would buy a lot of ammo!

I just took delivery on Wednesday.   The trigger is awesome in single action; a pleasantly crisp 4 lbs measured 5 times.  No one likes the heavy pull it has in DA but I don't intend to use that function as 95% of my shooting is slow fire.   I think the case length issue should be moot as the cartridge headspaces on the breech.  The Ultradot HD Micro 28mm red dot along with the Wiegand rail for L-frame should arrive today or tomorrow.   I took it to the range on Friday with the worst performing ammo in my RO; Winchester factory 115 FMJ and 7 of 14 rounds grouped 1 1/2" with some scattered flyers due to my poor performance with iron sights.  Once I mount the new sight I'll give it a thorough range evaluation with some light target handloads.  I hope the RO doesn't have a hissy-fit.  I still love it.
