Differences in .22 barrels
I posted this some time ago.. I received a request to repost it.. My photo bucket account had filled to capacity, and I deleted many many photos..I guess this 22 topic was deleted..I found and included some photos of the upgrade of Marvel/AA conversions to Lothar Walther match .22 barrels, and threaded breechblocks. Fortunately the camera card and thumb drives hold a nearly unimaginable number of photos. It became a daily effort to stay ahead of the maximum allowable photos, so I broke down and paid Photo Bucket the annual fee to maintain more photos.. Good for a couple more thousand..
OK.. Follow the red arrows..Bottom right: S&W 41 shows a small dimple from a stamped letter on the bottom. The heavy land to groove ratio and the tight bore is visually less apparent.
Bottom left: A High Standard barrel shows an excellent well defined chamber, but the barrel locking lug drill almost entered the chamber. Nice smooth gentle leade angle
Center right: narrow section of a S&W 41 which shows distinct variations in bore dimension..(Shadows)
Upper left: Another 41 with a poorly cut chamber face, and an abrupt 5 degree leade angle . The radius extractor relief is very easy o see, and visualize/imagine the extractor problems these cuts can cause.
Top center: Not as defined as I would have liked.. Ruger no distinct chamber at all.. Just a hole. Rugers are testimony to the inherent accuracy of the 22 cartridge.
Top right is a Lothar Walther stub I tried to show, but it blurred on me..The fine precise rifling and low land to groove ratio is apparent.. I may try to dig that piece up and take the pic again.

Posting pictures of a conversion Dave Wilson did for me. He manufactured a breech block out of A10 tool steel and used a Lilja undersize bore barrel.

Re: Differences in .22 barrels
Dan Lilja probably makes the best 22 blank on the planet.. I used his 22 blanks for making 41 barrels from scratch... Every one of them shot great..Wes Lorenz wrote:Posting pictures of a conversion Dave Wilson did for me. He manufactured a breech block out of A10 tool steel and used a Lilja undersize bore barrel.

The Lilja was an experiment and Dave was nice enough to make it. Just adding to your thread for others, hope you don't mind.
I had a senior moment and forgot where I put the silver solder (rearranged my shop) and still need to ultra sonic clean it, but it's on the way Saturday.
