M41 Magazine Disconnect
Does anyone know how to get a magazine disconnect spring back into a S&W M41? Short of sending it off to get worked on?

That link and those pictures were very informative and helpful. Thank you. The story for me is this - I bought my M41 a couple of years ago. When I bought it I was told it had issues jamming. It had a lot of bluing loss too which is why I got it for $700.
When I got it, the magazine disconnect would trip or engage, being fooled into thinking that there was no magazine in the gun when in fact I was mid magazine or mid string. I removed the spring from the magazine disconnect and put the disconnect back in under no spring pressure. This of course isn't legal to bullseye but it would not function correctly and at the time I was not using it for bullseye. It was a training pistol for my caplock pistol that was built and modeled after the M41. It also needed a reduced power recoil spring to cycle the match ammo. Had a new extractor tuned and installed as well. Now it runs great. The only jam I've seen since was recently in some very cold wether. And it was only one jam.
But now I'm shooting bullseye and localy they do not check guns for magazine disconnects being operational. But I still feel that to be by the book, fair, and legal, (not to mention if I ever shoot Perry where they do random checks is what I heard) then it needs to be resolved. I bought and have a new magazine disconnect spring. I'm going to reinstall and see what happens. If I still have issues then it'll have to go to a mechanic.

Tim, if you're still having issues give me a call. I should be able to help you over the phone get everything back in place.
