Genuine Gunsmith fit barrels..
True blanks, no chambers, upper or lower lugs.. These are going to be single upper lug barrels..for Bullseye Interesting concept initiated by Chuck Warner.. We have been shooting a one lug 45 since Sept. 15

Jerry will have his own list of advantages. But the main one to me would be you can have the twist you want, instead of the "standard" 16, which is not ideal in either 9mm or 38 IMHO. This is of course way beyond what most of can do, even those of us with a bit of a machine shop.

Jerry, I have long assumed (perhaps in error) that a standard chrome moly barrel blank is not hard enough for lugs. Is that not true? Do you do any heat treatment to the lug areas?

Complete control of the machining process, which means, control of all C/L axis.. the barrel should be built from the bore C/L out. The chamber can be single pointed to within several thousandths, and then reamed in a spider to attempt absolute concentricity. You can't do that with after market barrels.. The lugs, both upper and lower can be controlled..All those will have one upper lug.Blsi2600 wrote:And the advantage is ??
Dr. Don, those complete 1911 blanks are in the mid 40s if I recall. The 52 is turned from a Douglas blank which carbide cutters were used.. It was hard on HS cutters..I am not sure of the RC on the Douglas but it is tough... The lugs when fit tight between the breechface and slide lug really are not subjected to heavy wear, because nothing is moving under pressure.. 9 out of 10 1911s are running on the first lug.. I cut the lugs off my lady shooters 45 in Sept. and it has been running all winter like a Swiss watch.. ..

Thank you Troy..
Here's a shot of the lugless 52 barrel.. It's coming along nicely..I enjoy the challenge of R&D
I am running out of time, so I stopped taking in work, so I could devote all my time to experimenting..

Re: Genuine Gunsmith fit barrels..
A question for you, I know the model 52 is a really nice pistol with an excellent trigger but would a 1911 be a better platform because of the wide range of parts and frames available?
thanks
thanks

Jerry,
Lugless: 45 barrels. Is there a (lower) pressure limitation on these brls? If so should they be stamped something like "mid range ammo only"? Just wondering. Oh and the advantage? Smoother operaration? Better repeatability?
Thanks.

Re: Genuine Gunsmith fit barrels..
Most modern high pressure pistols are one lug. 357 Sig is one example. It doesn't get much more high
pessure than that. Most 1911s are only fit to the first lug. When fit tightly to the hood /breechface/upper slide lug the lock up is very strong.
Our proto type has many thousands of rounds thru it with no ill effects. Some one lug slides may appear on the future. That will allow a larger area for radial lock up and perhaps tighter groups.. We shall see..

Re: Genuine Gunsmith fit barrels..
You could make a limited run of those - especially the 9mm 1911...
