Clark 1911 38 Special Empty Clark 1911 38 Special

How accurate are the Clark 1911 .38 specials compared to a Colt Officers Model Match in .38 Spl? I shoot a OMM in International Centerfire where there is no sustained fire involved.
An older shooter is giving me the chance to purchase his 1960's Clark 1911 .38 spl. What is the middle of the road value for a Clark 38 spl?

The Clark if still snug should shoot circles around the other pistol. $1200 would be a steal.

My father had one of the Colts and it wasn't accurate enough for bullseye. The old Clark pistols are tops.

The Clark may or may not be better than the OMM.  The Clark was built at a time where 38 Special ammunition shot way better than 45.  But the competitors wanted to shoot auto loaders and have the same grip for easier transitions between stages.

The OMM like any revolver may have one or more chambers in the cylinder that will throw a flyer but you have to test individual chambers extensively.  The Clark won't have that problem.  And if it's tight it could shoot better.  The Clark might have better sights.

In the early 70s I had a Colt OMM 38 that was the most accurate handgun I ever shot.

My Clark will shoot inch and a half groups at 50 yards from a Ransom Rest with 2.7 BE and a 148 HBWC bullet.  It had opened up a few years ago and Buddy Chapman installed a new bushing for me since the OD of the barrel is the same as a .45 barrel.

this info is dated, and I may have some notes in my Bound Book, but I sold a few Clarks, (some were 38 special, think one was 38 super) a few years ago

got them out of an estate,  one was a long slide heavy new in the original box, and a few used (I kept a heavy long slide for myself in 45)

IIRC, the NIB went for ~2100,  the others, used, were in the 1500 range,  maybe a tad more,

I'll be back  in the shop in a few days and look to see I have a dollar amount in the book

I also kept a Colt 38 midrange,  1st model, probably should have sold that and kept a Clark,,,
