Cutting a chamfer on the hood edges, prevents them from bottoming out in the slide and creating a false reading, which often results in a short hood..

Well Jerry it is a seamless fit.  There is no seam....................

Took some time off from the barrels to get the IRS and SS regulations out of the way..still a few loose ends to finalize.. I dread it..
Profiling the front angle enough to get the lug cutter in.. Final cuts will be after the lower lug is fit.., and putting a clearance cut at 12 o clock in the upper  lug to prevent high centering.. 

I'll buy one if available in with a  bushing one for a EIC Service Pistol I want to build.

Sorry...burning both ends of the candle  lately, plus,  thought it might becoming a bore.. {groan}    First 2700 is Saturday the  2nd.   It is shooting very well.. Over 1000 rounds thru it to date. Best 50 yd line is 98 so  far..The shooter is elated with the feel. Says it is on par with her 52 shortline recoil.. She is smoking the short line..

Is that the one she has been practicing with? If so, it looked very smooth in slow fire. I didn't watch any sustained that day.

Yes...I have been too busy to accompany her. Her targets are much improved.

A  little equipment up grade with a new taper attachment to facilitate  those tapered cones...

Here I am working on a prototype 1911 gunsmith tool.. truing two blocks of 4140 pre hardened before layout.. Jo Block quality.. another seamless job..

Perry is fast approaching.. The 14 twist, one  lug barrel barrel in the above thread, has many thousand thru it and is doing so well that I am anxiously working on this 12 twist.. Closing in on finish.. Here I centered the lower lug with the bore line and roughed out the link slot..

I feel like a cnc would save you lots of time

Jerry, does the sharp step on the barrel lug where the slide stop pin rides over and rests, get cut out later, or is it part of the final design?

Yes, it is not any where near final fit.. I rough it out so I can get enough clearance to cut the link slot to depth.. Even then, that slot is tricky to get right..I ground a special cutter to get the depth,, and width.  The slot is .135
 I am roughing the slot with an endmill to take the load off the woodruff cutter and create chip clearance.

Decided to make a fixture to enhance finishing the barrels..[since I am no  longer buying barrels..]  This is ground square and true in relation to the lower lugs.
I can now install the barrel. Layout the roughing cuts and move to the mill without losing a zero.. It will also aid greatly in chambering / crowning to align X-Z axis
This is a 12 twist I hope to finish for Perry..
