Re: 2017 dates....
For me this is good. I will shoot pistol, come back home and work for 2 weeks and then shoot CMP rifle. Everything will be done by August 1, and that will help the Juniors.

Re: 2017 dates....
This will impact a large number of shooters in one way or another, Wonder who had this bright idea? Unless Canton changes their dates a lot of people are going to be pissed as well as other ranges that run matches for the on the way to perry crowd.

Re: 2017 dates....
I saw some rifle guys on FB discussing this. I'm with Mike. This might make it possible to do pistol and rifle. Lots of people will be unhappy though.

Re: 2017 dates....
It will be there somewhere. If you shoot safs and do cmp and nra it's the same length. But I've shot my last M9 this year. Small hands and that pistol do not go together.

According to the schedule on the CMP site: http://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2017NMCalendar.pdf .22 EIC is on July 2nd, right before the P100.james r chapman wrote:now that schedule, ssusa.org, does not list the .22 EIC at all...

Re: 2017 dates....
I think the date change is unfair to shooters in the Northern part of the country. Since small bore left I would have liked it if they moved pistol later. Down south shooter get a chance to shoot early in the year but up north it's too cold to shoot outside plus it gets dark early so week day practice at my club don't start until May outdoors. Is there any wonder why the winners are from the south?

Re: 2017 dates....
Yes I understand that but why make it worse? I'll have to check but back when I first starting to attend Perry it seemed later. The one welcomed change was the same day start. Back then first day was Monday, next year it was Tuesday, following year Wednesday and so on then reset and started over.

Re: 2017 dates....
The article says something about doing it to accommodate all the thousands of juniors coming. (My embellishments).

Re: 2017 dates....
Thousands didn't come for Small Bore and since it was moved to another location why not put them back to where Small Bore was?
Last year I overheard 2 of those NRA workers bitching in the Stat house about having to put off vacation until after Perry. I'll bet it has to do more with getting Perry over early then having a few Juniors shoot! As far as I'm concerned they are on Vacation anyway! Paid to go, paid while there, paid meals and logging in a resort area!

Re: 2017 dates....
I'm not a fan of SAFS not being at the beginning of the week. It makes for a day (Saturday) with only a 30 shot match if you don't plan on attending SAFS. I'd rather see the CMP matches on Saturday with SAFS on Sunday. I'd be more likely to attend the CMP awards ceremony if it was on Saturday and then I'd drive home on Sunday. As it has been I leave Perry right after the NTI so I can get back to work on Monday and not take additional vacation days. Not all of us Bullseye shooters are retired

Schedule states Rimfire Sporter Check In and Rimfire Sporter Match. I'm thinking the CMP seen the results of the Cardinal Center with the high Jr. turnout and want to get in on the action!

Re: 2017 dates....
At the 2016 SHOT Show the NRA had a meeting with the CMP. At that time the CMP expressed an interest in conducting their own matches rather than have the NRA conduct them, as has been done in the past. They wished to use their own volunteers and staff. This was reconfirmed by them via email in the spring.
The CMP wanted to further change the financial arrangement that was used in the past. This change would require both entities to no longer share expenses of the National Matches but require both to pay for their championships separately, necessitating each to arrange their own contracts.
Because of the setup time required for the Pistol events, it was agreed that the NRA events should be conducted first so that the NRA did not have to incur double expenses for travel, set up, etc., which would be required if the previous calendar model was followed.
The agreed to calendar was published on the CMP website prior to the 2016 National Matches..
One of CMP’s mandated areas of focus in competitive shooting is with junior competitors. At the 2016 National Matches a survey was held of junior coaches in order to address any concerns the coaches had that CMP could help address. It was learned that the new calendar would prevent junior high power rifle teams from competing in CMP events in 2017 due to many schools returning to the classroom on August 2nd. The match date for the junior rifle team match was August 3rd. As a result, the CMP requested a change to the published 2017 calendar.
Various options were discussed with the best options being starting the National Matches calendar either one week earlier or two weeks earlier. The difficulty in either calendar was the holiday weekend of July 4th.
By starting one week earlier it would require the OHNG to work and the competitors to compete over the holiday weekend. By starting two weeks earlier, the July 4th holiday would fall on a Range Change day between Pistol and High Power. The NRA and CMP were agreeable to either arrangement, because either would accommodate the needs of the junior competitors. The schedule change options were presented to the OHNG for review and approval.
The OHNG approved the start date of June 26, which is two weeks in advance of the current start date. However, this calendar is now also causing them some concerns due to the necessity of having their civilian employees work on July 4th to accept the influx of competitors into on base housing.
This schedule, if it doesn’t change again, is good for only one year because July 4th will fall on a Wednesday in 2018, which will not be a Range Change day and the entire schedule will have to be looked at again. In addition, as schools become year-round schools, there will soon come a time when it will be almost impossible for any juniors to compete in the National Matches.

TX, CA, WV, PA, NC, VA, and OH (I think). Those are the ones that I have seen shooting at Perry or other locations. I believe that there are more than that.

Every Student Succeeds Act replace No Child Left Behind and the pitiful common core.Wobbley wrote:Common Core?
Common Core can no longer be mandated with the last education bill.
- PROHIBITION: The legislation protects the right of states to opt-out of Common Core without federal interference and prohibits the federal government from taking any action against a state that exercises that right.
- PROHIBITION: The legislation prohibits the federal government from endorsing, approving, developing, rewarding, or requiring any curriculum aligned to the Common Core State Standards or any other academic standards, whether through a grant, contract, or cooperative agreement. Setting standards, developing curriculum, and assessing student achievement should be a state and local responsibility – not a federal one. That’s why the Every Student Succeeds Act places new and unprecedented prohibitions on the authority of the secretary of education and prohibits the secretary from incentivizing, forcing, or coercing states into adopting Common Core.
All of my teacher friends are both ecstatic and apprehensive at the same time about this. They are overjoyed that the Feds are out of dictating whats required, but unsure what our state will do.
