Don't forget New Jersey! We sent 15 kids to the high power matches and 12 kids to the pistol matches (and we took first place in the .45 team match, thank you very much!)

I saw the pistol kids, but not the rifle kids, sorry. Indiana also had a Junior Pistol team, I'm not sure about rifle.

Re: 2017 dates....
The real issue here is the NRA high power matches take a long time. With long range, plus the OTC matches they've become a bit long.
So if you put the rim fire matches over at Petrarca? Maybe they can run concurrently with something?

Do many people shoot both pistol and high power?

Re: 2017 dates....
Probably not. But the ratupionale for this change was to hold this rim fire match.

Re: 2017 dates....
I have always said you can't please everybody. Sounds to me like we really do need to move something away from Camp Perry if we are serious about trying to grow our numbers. There is a location that many of the old National Guard shooters know of that could possibly handle the pistol matches and that is Camp Robinson Arkansas in North Little Rock Arkansas. It has been several years since I have been there but if memory serves me the pistol range could handle things. We held the Wilson Matches there each year which involved 6 man teams from each of the 50 states plus territories. We fired 1 relay in the morning which means we put around 300 shooters (+/-) on the line at once and if you fire 3 relays as at Perry that means it would handle about 900 shooters per day. Sure don't think Perry had that many shooters. I don't know about the logistics and infrastructure that is needed but I think it could be done. Sure would make travel easier for the west coast guys!

I don't know about High Power, the Schedule states RimFire and it's after the closing Ceremony so it has nothing to do with the National Match! Why could they not shoot before Pistol?? Years ago they had Black Powder matches before Pistol.

2017 National Matches
This schedule change seems to me to be problem that will result in a reduction of competitors firing the CMP part of the National Matches. With the SAFS going on Saturday and then the EIC's, P100, and the Team matches firing on Sunday, I think there will be quite a few competitors packing up and heading out of there on Friday after the NRA team matches or Saturday morning. Myself, I don't want to hang around for an extra day with nothing to shoot, if not going to the SAFS(which I don't see myself doing) I will most likely be heading home on Friday night! I think this could be fixed by simply doing the SAFS on Sunday and the fired matches on Saturday. Just my opinion!!

Re: 2017 dates....
An extra day with nothing to shoot means that I might finally be able to see both the Liberty Aviation museum and Put-in-bay. Not to mention time to leisurely peruse vendor's row and maybe even catch a fish or two.
This year I arrived Sunday and left Sunday. Next year I will arrive Sunday and leave Sunday. I will not shoot the SAFS again, but that's just fine.
