I'm not sure they'd be smaller, but I really like Herrett Shooting Stars
Re: What grips for SW 14 K frame for DR?
are they the same on both sides? if not they are not legal for DR matches.Christopher Miceli wrote:best grips out there, and cheap.

The problem with the Davis grip is their soft and squishy. The border patrol guys I shoot with went with a Hogue version similar to the Davis except I. Wood. No change in the grip when your grip pressure changes.

THE DAVIS GRIPS IS MADE OF SANTOPRENE AND ARE MUCH FIRMER THAT THE HOGUE RUBBER GRIP.
I FEEL THE DAVIS GRIP IS ABOUT THE BEST FOR DR (DR#34). QUITE LARGE AT THE BOTTOM , BUT IT HAS THE SINGLE FINGER GROVE UP TOP THAT FITS A SMALLER HAND LIKE MINE JUST FINE. I STARTED WITH THE DAVIS GRIP IN PPC 20+ YEARS AGO. THAN TRIED JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN. I HAVE SINCE RETURNED TO THE DAVIS AND COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. JP

I have a pair of the Magna grips if you are interested. Smaller than the target ones.

For DR, don't the grips have to be symmetrical, that is, identical on both sides, even for the rubber wrap around grips like Pachmayr?

Are the Davis grips marked in any way? I bought a 14-5 a few months ago and it had an extra pair of grips that look like the Davis grips. I like the shape of the grips but no way will they work they move around when installed no matter how I tighten them.Christopher Miceli wrote:best grips out there, and cheap.

+ 4? on the Bill Davis grips (the long version). Of course they're for the square butt med frames. -- I'm glad to see they're back in production.
Don't over-tighten the screws. --- I keep a couple bands of bicycle inner tube around them for practice & remove for matches.

I contacted Davis today and had correspondence with Arline. The new Davis grips are for ROUND BUTT ONLY K FRAME
Just a heads up for those that might purchase them. There is no description on their web site as to what guns or frames they fit.
I wanted to try them but I have an old square butt M-14 and these new ones will not fit.

I personally like Hogue stocks, but Herrett's has a great variety and will make to your hand measurements. They've been in business long enough that they probably have it right by now. http://www.herrettstocks.com

My second choice since I could only afford one pair of Nills is the Pachmayr Gripper Professional. They are smaller then the wood target grips but easy to hold. They are legal for DR and available everywhere.

Re: What grips for SW 14 K frame for DR?
Dave, if you'd like to try the Pachmayr Gripper Professionals I can loan you a set. I didn't like them as the open backstrap kept pinching my palm. Ransom Rest Ricky has my Davis grips.
On the round butt Davis grips, a little work with a rotary file and a dremel should be all that is needed to turn them into square butt grips.
Nills is a nice neighborhood to be in. I have Eagle grips on two of my target revolvers but if I was doing it again I'd try Herretts and see how much area could be checkered. Smooth grips move all over when I'm reaching for the hammer.
