n frame model 629 grips
in single action, its a dream.. in double action, the front face of the trigger is almost to far a distance to work and hope to have accuracy.
is there a chance the grips with no covering on the backstrap of the frame will provide sufficient ability to get a full finger pad on the trigger during DA fire

What grips do you have now? I have Hogue G10 on mine with no back cover, it is fine for DA reach. Then again, it all depends on your finger length and hand placement. I do not find significant difference K L N frame trigger reach.

Re: n frame model 629 grips
factory grips on my lil girl.
I have an issue with mine, that using the correct "high hold", during DA work i can barely get the tip of the trigger finger on it, and can barely work the action.
to get the gun to work DA, i have to put the trigger almost into the the first joint.. that torques the gun all over, sure i can maintain a 4" group at 25 yards like that,, but not where i want it.
Was hoping that thinner grips in back would give me some more reach to just get the middle section of the tip onto the trigger.
ive heard about someone selling replacement triggers that have a shape that puts the whole trigger closer to the user, but im not exactly up to do that work.

I have the same exact issue when using grips that cover the backstrap. You have to play with a wide variety of grips to find the ones that work for you; I ended up LOVING Nill grips.

Re: n frame model 629 grips
grips are expensive...
my question is, im only shooting low end loads 8-900 fps, recoil is ok.. how is switching to a wood grip going to change that

Wood grips will be fine. G10 offers better grip than wood even if smooth grips.
Your handhold on revolver has a big play in reach. Holding in the middle will give you minimum reach. Holding up high will give you plenty of reach. I.am biased to high grip because it gives me more of a euro angle, which I know mot everyone likes

Re: n frame model 629 grips
I cannot remember the exact timing, but when N frames went stainless they (all?) went to round butt. But don't worry. Hogue grips are basically round to square converaions where they retain the shape of a square for round butt. RB grips in N frame are also easier to find and way cheaper than square counterparts.

My 629 was built with a square butt in the early 1990s.

My 610 is round and I was so surprised when I saw that after taking off Hogue rubbers. SW revolver variant history is huge and often hard to find these details on variants, changes, cut-offs.

THe gun is BIG.... and has been growing on me. Really has shown me deficincies in hand alingment.
But the shock ive had is that the 357 ive had for years, i always thought was full sized, and hand filling, is rather petite to me now.

Does anyone think the extended release is really going to make it easier or faster.. I have minimal issue with the factory one
