Hi, new member from Idaho. Full disclosure, I've never shot a Bullseye match, not available in my area. I am interested in accurate guns, general target shooting and handloading though so there's some overlap with your sport. I've signed up to ask a few gun/equipment questions and to be able to use the classifieds. Thanks for having me.

I'm a lifelong handloader and a cartridge junkie, fascinated by the .32 S&W Long and, to a lesser degree, the .38 Special. I'm also a casual collector of the Thompson Center Contender pistol and barrels. I have not yet participated in the sport of Bullseye, am not aware of any organization in my area. I came here specifically hoping to learn more about the .32 S&W L and the folks still shooting and loading this cartridge.

First Post! Hello, call me Bryan
I Started competitive rifle shooting in 1970 with a Army Reserve Team.
My first trip to Perry was 1972 with the USAR All Reserve Team. Earned my Rifle Distinguished in 1978. With an M14. Had a break in competing between 1979 -1984. Then resumed rifle. Made the P100 with both M14 and AR 15. Continued to shoot rifle and begin to venture into combat style shooting which included pistols. Earned my Distinguished Pistol in 2004 as a member of the USAR Pistol Team, and made the P100 with the M9. Retired in 2009. My competing slowed down a bit then. But in 2020 I begin to get the bug to compete again. I have been hitting it fairly hard the last couple years. And the progress has been slow. So, I bought Bruce Martindale’s book feeling center and it has helped. I really recommend his book. And to quote a statement in Bruce’s book that describes me, “I have forgotten more than I knew”. Been a forum member for a couple of years. But I am not much of a computer guy. And I enjoy reading the posts, by all the knowledgeable forum members.
Currently live in Wisconsin, but spend a fair amount of time in Texas.

Bryan, We sure walked on the same ranges! I shot service rifle, as a civilian, in the 1980s. At the time i shot with many of the people you had as teammates. Guys like Al Ewing, Barbara Depasque(?), WO Coutts, and more I can’t remember……. I got P100 rifle in 1985, and legged out in 1986. Welcome!

Hi all,
I’ve been shooting for just over a year. Indoor paper punching got me trying to improve my accuracy. Outdoors even more so. Then I fell in with some bad actors at my outdoor range who shoot bullseye more or less informally every week.
Boy did I learn how far I had to go.
This fall, I put an accurizing kit in my Mark IV. Then, after I felt I was getting nowhere, I got a MantisX, and that has really helped trigger pull. That got me thinking of trying a match this summer, so I got the cheapest red dot on Amazon, just to try it, and that created another step, with 25 yard groups dropping to 4”-5” on the regular.
But I didn’t have a decent CF gun, so I went WAY out there and got a Pardini GT45 so I can do a 2700, on the principle (finally) of buy once. Or whatever. (But let’s face it, that trigger is irresistible)
You can see how this got out of hand.
Anyway, I’ve been lurking for a while trying out advice here and seeing that help my shooting. I need so much more, and I’m absorbing as fast as I can. Thank you for a great forum. I will be listening intently.

Intro
After graduation from college, friends invited me to one of William Penn Pistol League (indoor 50') matches. I shot in the league for many years and also enjoyed the Walt Wise Police Pistol matches hosted by Harrisburg Hunters and Anglers.
I moved to North Carolina for work, and continued to shoot bullseye at Sir Walter Gun Club (match directors John Torres and Cecil Rhodes).
I was introduced to Service Rifle at Sir Walter and have primarily shot XTC for a number of years, although I RSO (and shoot matches) with the the Triangle Precision Pistol League.
In 2023 I went distinguished with the Service Rifle. I decided to work on the CMP Distinguished Service Pistol badge. I was high competitor M9 EIC Match at the CMP Eastern Games 2024.

Nice to have found this site
My name is Jim and I live in Las Cruces, NM. I moved here from Lockport,NY in 2000. Recently retired and getting back to going to the range and enjoying shooting my pistols. I am sure I will find a lot of interesting topics here and look forward to seeing what the site has to offer.
I am not a competitive shooter, just enjoy getting out and trying to improve my shooting skills. Was just reading my old copy of Gil Hebard's " The Pistol Shooter's Treasury " 2nd edition while waiting for an oil change.

Hey folks! I am a novice from Portland, Oregon.
I've only started getting into guns within the past couple years. A long time hobby for me is scale modelling, mostly airplanes and cars, and so, naturally, what drew me in to guns was parts kits, . I've built a pps43 and a g3 so far.
But a friend from a non-guns forum, recommended I try bullseye, as they participate in their club in Poland. So I bought a cheap unique des-69, took it out, and... it's just so much fun. I love how specialized the guns are, I love the simple ruleset and the ways it has diverged from practical shooting - where, it is not just modelling real combat, it comes out of the mechanics of shooting and takes that to the next level.
Anyways my muscle mass is so low I'm currently training my shoulder abduction so I can even lift the gun one handed This is the first time of life where I am exercising regularly... I am a computer programmer, I do game UI professionally, I have the sedentary lifestyle, haha.

Good afternoon. I hope everyone is doing well! I am new to posting but have been a member since 2019. I am an avid shooter of both pistols and rifles. I love to reload and compete in CMP rifle events and rifle silhouette shooting in small bore, high-power, and lever action. I have been bit by precision bullseye shooting and started down that road. I have read a lot on this forum and will continue to read to learn from everyone.

Hello, I’m big into USPSA where I mostly shoot open division. But previously shot 3gun and also dabble in .22 PRS and NRL22. I got started in competition with a 10m pneumatic pistol when I was 12. It was a Feinwerkbau model 2. I just recently bought a P8X after feeling the itch to get back to my roots!
Happy to be here and looking forward to learning more about bullseye!

If you’re new to Bullseye or just want to learn methods for Precision pistol shooting shooting, please take note of the $10 eBook on that topic listed under Feeling Center banner ad on the Home page…thanks!

Hi, I have been competing in local indoor .22 league and beginning to travel for outdoor 2700s and international matches for centerfire and air pistol. Hoping to learn a lot from everyone here and to continue to grow and improve my shooting skills. I found Bruce's book extremely helpful over the past year.

Hello to the forum,
I'm a retiring fed and plan to pursue a long held passion to compete in EIC and go out in both rifle and pistol. I shot one short season with a Bn team in the Marines back in '91 and didn't medal, but I really caught the bug. So much so that I promised myself that one day when I had the money and time I would get back into the game. As happens in life my career took me overseas for a long time with just short stints in the U.S. when I could start training again. In 2025 I'll be finally hanging it up with FedCo and will have the time to really make a go of it. I have most of the equipment (during a domestic tour in 2015 I was preparing in a big way but went back abroad).
So, I am here to motivate myself as I count the days. Not a lot I can do to prepare where I'm currently assigned aside from staying in decent shape and doing a lot of planning. I'll be settling in the Eugene, OR area so if anyone has good info on bullseye/leg/EIC matches in the PNW area I'm all ears. I plan to download the CMP rules over the winter to make sure I'm current on the details. I'll be retiring Sep 2025 so plan to train through that winter and compete in the spring of 2026. Maybe I can find some local bullseye stuff during the winter to get the competition edge back and not just do solo practice sessions.
Thanks in advance for any info or motivation you can share.
Edit: From perusing the rules I believe that it isn't allowed to shoot a 1911 with a rib that incorporates irons in EIC service pistol. I know the "right" answer is "read the rules" but can anyone confirm this? I'd love to be able to shoot both bullseye 45 and EIC service pistol with the same gun by just removing the optic if that's permissable now that you don't have to shoot 230 gr ball for EIC.

A 60+ year old newbie
I officially joined a Bullseye league this past June. When I was a pre-teen I caught the bug for competitive pistol shooting after someone gave me a book on the subject. I was a bit of a gun enthusiast up until age 16, at which point I discovered girls.
About 45 years later, my wife suddenly expressed an interest in pistol shooting. I've enjoyed relearning how to shoot, as well as helping my wife develop her skills. It has been rather amusing taking her to the range, watching someone trying to mansplain to her how to handle a pistol, only to watch her COMPLETELY out shoot him at 50 yards.
I bought a Pardini SP, and I felt very sheepish taking a high-end pistol to the bullseye league evenings. I actually did pretty poorly with it, particularly at first, and I think that was actually a good thing! When people saw how terrible I was, that seemed to give them license to start giving me invaluable advice. I'm not as terrible as when I first started, but I realized that even when I have an awful night - I'm still having fun.
My wife decided to earn another degree, so she hasn't been joining me at the bullseye league, but I'm hopeful I can get her there eventually.

There are several EIC matches in the Eugene-Portland area every year. Several more if travel to Washington or California is in your capabilities. The Fleet matches may be the only match to get a hard leg. We have a hard time finding enough for 6 points here in Oregon.MTyp2501 wrote:Hello to the forum,

Thanks very much for this info, you sound like someone I will need to get to know. Do you practice locally? I've shot at the Emerald Empire club and had considered joining there but we just bought a place much closer to Izaak Walton. Do you recommend either for bullseye practice?

I'm sorry I missed this question earlier. I'm afraid I'm not a good source to respond to that question. I shoot matches there but I've only practiced in Corvallis at the Armory or in Florence at the gun club there. In Florence there is always room for another shooter. I've been a member there since 1965 and they have gotten used to me setting up targets at 25yds while they are all shooting at 7 (or less)MTyp2501 wrote:LenV wrote:

I just sent you a PM, but, stupid me, I had not read your original post. I now realize that you are probably still overseas. So, most of the I fo in my PM is still relevant, but immediate action is not relevant and I guess that you are quite well "up to speed". Anyhow, I have shared contact details for Roddy and myself in the PM. Feel free to ask away. There are several retired Military/LEO notable shooters in Oregon. You will be welcomed. Best regards
