Clark Scope Rail Installation
Gentleman: I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I'm planning to purchase a Springfield Armory Range Officer and have a Clark scope rail installed for mounting an Ultra Dot Match Dot sight. Am I correct that only 3 of the 4 installation screws can be used when installing the Clark rail due to the rear sight cut on the R.O.? Also, would a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec allow all 4 mounting screws to be used since the slide has a different rear sight cut? Thanks in advance.

A longer screw is used at rear. Does not use rear sight hole. A shim can be placed at rear of slide or new mounting hole added to rib. Any pistolsmith that mounts it can add new hole.

Yea but, yea but, then you would have a stronger mount on a POJ pistol. If your worried about strength it is easy to add more holes and screws to the mount.

The rock river covers more of the slide and hides more of LPA cut. I know KC sells them but I'm sure you can order from RRA themselves

My first BE 45 was a Range Officer which I've kept as a back up. I mounted a Clark rail by milling out the rail to fit over the rear sight. I used the three forward screws to mount it. Since then I've done a couple others for friends. My old gun has over twenty thousand rounds and never had any problems. If you're concerned, the screw size could be increased to 8-40.

Thanks for the helpful information. Does the SA mil-spec slide allow the use of the 4 mounting screws?

Yes. The small rear sight dovetail cut is well behind the last screw hole.

I'm still using a springfield with the Marvel scope rib and only 3 screws. I have no trouble.

You gotta call RRA for those extra coverage mounts. The ones you can directly order online from RRA do not have the extended skirt option.Chris Miceli wrote:The rock river covers more of the slide and hides more of LPA cut. I know KC sells them but I'm sure you can order from RRA themselves
I have one installed on my RO. I used a sight blank filler to give screw four something to hold and switched to 8-40 screws.

Clark mounted on RO. I don't have a bazillion rounds thru it as this is a backup pistol. Zero problems with 3 screws.
