While the Olympic shooters are screwed you can take comfort in the NRA's wholehearted support of Bullseye and all the shooting sports.

Sad, I feel for those that were training for those events.

I'm very sad to see Free Pistol go. To me, it was the ultimate, purest and most difficult event. I liked that the scores were low (remember: difficult). I liked that there were barely any rules for the equipment (1oz trigger!). Some would argue air pistol is essentially the same thing and to some extent, I would agree. But that target sits only 10m away from you. Bullseye shooters understand the courage/faith required to fire a pistol at a target 50m away. R.I.P., Free Pistol.
On another note, I wish the olympics would add Standard Pistol; essentially ISSF's version of NRA Bullseye!

Wasn't double trap one of the events that would have easily gone co-ed?

Women competing alongside men would have offended too many member states.

I remember reading that women air pistol was 40 shots instead of the men's 60s so that you couldn't easily compare scores; some men would not have taken lightly to be beaten by women

There will still be free pistol for the Word Games, Pan Am Games, National Championships, State Championships, etc., right?

World Championships: yesBE Mike wrote:There will still be free pistol for the Word Games, Pan Am Games, National Championships, State Championships, etc., right?
Pan Am Games: no
USASNC: kind of, in a very red-headed stepchild fashion
State Championships: up to the coordinators in each state
USAS has been very clear that they do not care a whit for the non-Olympic events. Those events, and the people who compete in them, are second-class citizens.

In a lot of respects, the Olympics are becoming a rolling disaster anyway. They're too big too costly and an economic basket case. I'm not sure they will survive in their present form.

Interesting how they don't mind soliciting money from the second-class citizens though.john bickar wrote:

John I don't think you could have said anything more naughty than that:-)
I just shot my first free pistol match in 10 years today. NRA sectional championship. I can't believe how much fun I had.
