52-2 rear sight cut
Is the rear sight cut on a 52-2 and model 41 a Bomar cut. My gun will be here Saturday and I am going to want to shoot it. I called the place for the rail that mounts in the cut but he said he sold the last one last week and might get to making more in a month. i then found one of his on larry's Gun shop for $15 more and ordered it. I do have a mount for a Fastfire that fits a Bomar cut and a spare Fastfire. Please don't tell me to shoot it with irons as the rear sight is missing all the parts. Probably the reason there was only two bidders but I was told a Model 41 rear fit and I planned on using a dot. Don

It is going to surprise you. The cut is very generous and the rear sight is held in by screws not driven in.

Yes that is a surprise S&W has some guns my sight pusher doesn't even ant to move. That means when I pick it up at the range, my FFL, I can replace the sight and shoot right then. Don

Try EGW for mounts. I was thinking of a reflex type like the Vortex Venom for mine, to keep the weight down. They probably have mounts for dots, but didn't search. Here is the rear dovetail rail:

Re: 52-2 rear sight cut
That is what I have I ended up with 3 of them each in a different cut. I was trying to get one to fit one of my guns and even the guns CS told me the wrong cut. When i did get the right one it still fit terrible and left a gap under the mount when the set screw was tighten. So I added them to my parts box of stuff I though was going to be a good idea but wasn't. I have a Venom on a SA RO 9MM but had thar slide milled for it. DonKenO wrote:Try EGW for mounts. My M52 rear sight mount journey and fix.
Been shooting the M52 for a few years with the BME dust cover mount using a 1" UD.
Never an issue, would go back to zero within a couple clicks when removed for disassembly to do the spring cleaning of the pistol.
The sight does sit a bit high with that mount but no issues with accuracy.
Fast forward to the recent history of the last few months.
Wanted to go to an Aimpoint sized sight and a mount in the rear dovetail to get the sight closer to the bore axis.
Back to BME and purchased the rear dovetail mount for the Aimpoint H1.
Installed a Holosun and fired it to sight in.
Mount came loose after 15-20 shots.
Back to the shop to assess the issue.
This is my fix and so far no issues.
The BME mount is well made with 5 set screws.
4 set screws tighten down against the slide to pull the mount up into the dovetail and the 5th is in the center.
The dovetail mount is generous with a gap between it and the slide.
I reinstalled the mount centering it and using only the 4 set screws that tighten on the slide.
Took a steel feeler gauge and determined what would fit snugly in the gap between the mount and slide inside the dovetail.
Cut a piece of steel shim stock .002" thicker and tapped it into the dovetail under the mount.
Removed 1 set screw at a time and blue loktited each one and torqued including the 5th set screw.
Retorqued multiple times.
Let loktite cure.
Been rock solid since.
Easy fix for generous dovetail mount dimensions.

Clarence thanks for that info it sounds like a good plan. I wish BME had had a mount in stock as I didn't want to wait a month or two for him to start making them again. I was willing to pay the extra $15 to Larry's Gun Shop just hope it show up. I will be putting a Matchdot II on it as that is what I am using on my BE 22 and 45. I do like the Halosun for the price it seams like a good dot. Sure don't have to worry about the battery going dead with the 5 year run time. Don

Re: 52-2 rear sight cut
My 52's all have slight different cuts. That being said, no new spare 52 sight slides into the dovetail. The EGW mount was a tight fit, but it's also made of aluminum, so any fitting should be fairly straight forward.

Re: 52-2 rear sight cut
I have a EWG Bomar and it did not fit my 52-2. It was way to small and there was no way it was going to stay in the cut on the slide. I have the Doctor mounts from EWG in 3 different cuts I bought for other guns. Seam manufacturers often use a propriety cut that fits their sights. My Doctors mount from BME made for the 52 fits perfect. BTW I didn't find that my rear sight slid right out after removing the set sdrew. Took a few taps. Be careful of the spring under the sight. Remove sight right right to left makes it easier to hold the spring down. Don

Re: 52-2 rear sight cut
The EGW Bomar has a different dovetail cut ftom the EGW Model 52. EGW similar to BME offers bases with specific dovetails (e.g. Bomar, Novak, Kimber,s&w Model 52, etc) with a variety of mounting configurations on the top of the plate to accommodate the different MDRS out there such as the Doctor, Leopold, Burris, vortex, etc...
Sadly EGW does not make a set up to mount the Aimpoint H1. Seems BME is the only supplier for a h1/52 set up without going the custom route.
Anyone have any other sources?
