Looking for ideas for a good 1911 9mm carry
I am thinking of getting a new 9mm carry preferably 1911. I don't want the barrel less than 3.8 though. Any ideas.

I only shoot BE but my wife wanted a 9mm 1911. I figured with the wealth of knowledge here we could come up with something

I'm a huge fan of the Dan Wesson Pointman. Its beautifully made - forged frame - Ed Brown parts. I have the full size in .45. But, they have both a full size in 9mm and a new carry model with a 4.25 inch barrel called the Pointman Carry PM-C.
At a more moderate price point, I have a Kimber Stainless Target in 9mm that I think is a great quality pistol for the money. They make the same model in a 9mm carry version called the Pro Carry II.
I don't think you can go wrong with either pistol. It all depends on what you want to spend.
Enjoy your search!

I carry my 9mm RO when traveling. Sort of a 2 for 1er. Nice to carry and great for EIC matches. I carried a Gold Cup for 30 years till I put a dot on it and started using it for Bullseye. I like carrying something that hits where its aiming. It used to be a 9. Now its a 38 super but it could be a 9 again in less then 2 minutes.

Problem is Len, I bet you're a bit bigger than the OPs better half and you could hide a full size 1911. Heck, you could probably hide one in the palm of your hand.

Something smaller then. Not a 1911 but close. Best 9mm ever made. For a short period. Not a tack driver but EIC legal and you can still find good deals. Also barrel length meets OP's requirement. Have you looked at the 39 line?Wobbley wrote:Problem is Len, I bet you're a bit bigger than the OPs better half and you could hide a full size 1911. My off duty guns are: SA Champion Operator, SA EMP, and A Colt mustang. After I started shooting bullseye with a 1911, I sold two glocks for the SA Champion, and never looked back.

If you want a smaller version of the best 9mm made. Take a look at one of these http://cz-usa.com/product/cz-75-compact-9mm-black-14-rd-mags/

Re: Looking for ideas for a good 1911 9mm carry
Why?
You limit yourself to 9+1 in an Inferior cartridge.
If you must carry a 1911 make it a .45.
Too many better hi cap 9mm out there.
XDM,
O the small ruger LC9S.

Model 439 have a 4" barrel. As do all the dashes and prefixes in the 39 series.Mightyheb wrote:Len. What size barrel, does your 9 have

Re: Looking for ideas for a good 1911 9mm carry
My wife chose a Ruger LC380, because of the carry size and style, and somewhat reduced recoil. After a while she wanted to try shooting my heavier 1911 .45 (which she avoided earlier because "Big Gun, Big Recoil") and found she preferred it over the LC 380 by a mile. Now she better understands how the trade off between weight, ammo load, and recoil works, so the 380 is gone now. She doesn't carry, just shoots at the range with me if I am lucky. Her favorite is definitely the Hammerli .22 though.james r chapman wrote:O the small ruger LC9S.
Everyone here is looking out for the Bullseye angle, but you really need to let your wife try a few things and then she can decide what she wants. Maybe try out a couple of rentals at the range.

Re: Looking for ideas for a good 1911 9mm carry
For me, it's a Glock 26 with a +2 mag extension, light, short barrel, and very accurate for me at SD distances. I re shaped the grip and stippled mine, but it was a great gun before that, I just have huge hands lol. For me, when looking for a self defense gun, reliability is first and foremost, followed closely by accuracy, and the glock has all of that in spades. I love my 1911s, but when I've got to tote it around all day...bring on the polymer

Well my wife decided to take my XDM 9mm 3.8. Which leaves a hole in my collection. Alright team. What should be the new addition to the family. I'm thinking Sig Nightmare or a revolver which I don't have any. Let me know your opinion on what you would add
