Ideal Velocity for Light .45acp Bullets for a 1:16 Barrel?
Anyone know what the ideal velocity is for a light 45acp LSWC (152-160gr) for accuracy at 50 and at 25 yards? For those shooting them, how accurate can you get at 50 and 25yards? Are 1.5-2.0 inch groups possible at 25 yards? How about at 50 yards?

I tried the 155gr swc for 45. They would clean a 25 yard target but the 200 swc was noticeably more accurate. They cut a very crisp hole! Think I settled on 5gr WST, maybe a faster powder would be more accurate. Clays or 700x.

I hammer the x-ring with the 160s, it preforms very well at 50 as well. Your gun and barrel results may vary.
im at 4.0 BE with the 160s for 25

For the 160gr H&G S242 4.5grs Bullseye @ 50yds & 4.3grs for 25yds . They shoot well with pretty much same charge you'd use for a 185 JHP . I do find the 200gr H&G 68 is more accurate @ 50yds with 4.2grs Bullseye ( cast ) or 3.8grs Bullseye ( swaged ) & you can load them down with 3.5grs Bullseye for 25yds too .

Have you ever chrono'd your ammo? How fast were they going?Chris Miceli wrote:I hammer the x-ring with the 160s, it preforms very well at 50 as well. Your gun and barrel results may vary.

Since we don't have to make a PF majority of us only worry about smallest groups . ES , SD & velocity envelope at least in handgun target loads rarely equal best accuracy . Accuracy is paramount , all else is secondary .

I've used that load in the past, and it was about 780fps.
