158 gr lswc varying in weight
A friend gave me some 158 gr lswc's that he cast. I weighed them and found them to vary between 159 and 161 grains. Is this normal ? I seperated them into 3 groups of 159 gr, 160 gr and 161 gr. Will they be more ccurate being in groups ? Can I load them all with 3.3 of WST or will I need to use a different amount of powder for each ?

I have bought commercial jacketed 80 grain rifle bullets with more variation than that. That said I would weigh and batch them for 50 yard shooting.

There are variation in all cast bullets. One variable is the weight of the lubricant in the lube groove.
As has been discussed in several threads recently, it's difficult to create an accurate 50 yard 158gr revolver load, but I don't think that 1 or 2 grains is going to be a factor large enough that a different powder charge would be warranted. Besides, I think it would be extremely difficult to dump less than .1 grains of WST to account for the 161gr bullets.

I do not have a lot of experience weighing .38 bullets, but I've got quite a bit of experience weighing .45 auto in LSWC & SLWCHP & a total variation of 2 grs seems to me pretty small. There are commercial bullet casting businesses that can't cast that close tolerance.
