H.S. 107 HD Military Pistol
I have a very old HD Military that is acting up. Best guess is a broken spring. Is this pistol worth having repaired with the intensions of using it in .22 gallery style bulls eye competitions, or are they just so outclassed by modern pistols that it is best repaired and held aside as a remembrance of my Dad who owned the gun from new and buying something else?
Thanks
Jon

It will shoot with the best pistol on the market today. Clarify please. Is it a 107 Military or an HD? Do you have a picture?

Jon,
Many years ago I shot my first bullseye matches with an HD that was a gift from my father in law. I later decided I'd shoot better with a more modern pistol so I bought a new 41. Did I shoot better? NO!
If it's in nice original condition, don't modify it. Shoot it and have fun! It will be a capable iron sighted pistol.

It’s the top one a HD Military. The barrel does not seem as long as the one in the photo, but I'm going from memory, I'll check it tonight when I get home.

I think they came in either 4 or 6 inch barrels.
There are better pistols out there, including the 107 military. BUT...the one you have is fine for indoor and learning the very basics. Don't alter it as a collector will give you enough on it to make a serious payment on a good used S&W41.

I was shooting it until it stopped, then traded up to a Ruger and again up to a Benelli. I’m not unconvinced it was not a better shooter than those two. The Benelli is an accurate pistol and I shoot it well, it just might be that Benelli is Italian for jam-o-matic. I cannot find an ammo that will feed reliably through it.

Re: H.S. 107 HD Military Pistol
The only time I have had a double alibi with the Benelli, was when I was shooting CCI std. It was a little too long. The first alibi was a dirty chamber, the second was a long round.
I will warn you though that it is possible for a round to be stuck between the trigger mechanism and the slide. It's a good idea to disassemble before big matches if you have time to re zero, and clean thoroughly.

Mine is a 95 that I upgraded with the 90 trigger group and orthopedic grips. I cannot put the CCI through it reliably but SK ammo seems to run pretty well in it. Since the trigger group change it has gotten a lot better for some unexplainable reason. I’m feeding from the same magazines and the bolt and recoil pad etc are all the same as before. Maybe the hammer gets out of the way of the recoiling bolt a millisecond quicker or with less resistance but something seems to have changed for the better.

I have the Larry’s scope rail adapter for it also. It’s a cool piece of engineering using the barrel weight screw to hold itself on to the pistol; it looks like something out of a sci-fi movie when it’s installed. It makes the Benelli a true jam-o-matic however and I simply shoot the beast with irons.
